Chapter 38 (Amelia)

I woke up. I was on the floor. I got up. The papers were scattered everywhere. I took a gulp of my drink. It was horrible. The door opened and I saw Owen standing in front of me. "Amelia they have been looking for you for almost two hours"

"Who is they?"

"Addison and Bailey. Derek is awake and Meredith is almost done with surgery, Richard is closing."

"Meredith was beat up. She wasn't breathing when we found her. She is in surgery."

The words replayed throughout my head. I stood i front of Bailey frozen. She called out my name and asked if I was okay. I couldn't move. My stomach was turning, I felt nauseous. I ran to the nearest bathroom leaving Bailey and Addison alone with Derek. I opened the stall and threw up. What was happening? What was going on? I collapsed onto the stall floor. I held on the the toilet and I cried. I heard the stall next to mine flush and then I heard a small knock on my stall's door.

"Amelia? Amelia is that you?" the voice asked.

I got up and opened the stall door. There standing in front of me was Jo. She looked concerned and she reached for my hand. I started crying. She let go and ran over to the sink. She grabbed some paper towels and got some of them wet. She walked over to me and used the wet paper towels to get the pile out of my hair. She used the dry ones to wipe my tears. She threw them away then came back over to me. Without hesitation or approval, she pulled me close to her and she held me tight. We stood still hugging for at least five minutes. Jo let go and spoke. "Now tell me Amelia, what's going on?"

"Meredith and Derek's lives are hanging by a thread and here I am all healthy and okay. Also, someone beat Meredith. They kicked and punched her. Who does that?" I cried.

"When  Meredith wakes up maybe she will remember who hurt he. We can file a police report and have them deal with it. Trust me, I've been through this process before." she calmly replied.

"If Meredith wakes up. Besides I know who did it."

"How... What?" she stuttered.

"Derek was found outside the E.R. beat almost to death. I noticed that his left eye was bruised but not his right. If Meredith's left eye is bruised as well it could indicate that the same person punched both of them with the same hand." I explained.

"While that could make sense, how could we see what eye is bruised for Meredith? She is in surgery."

"Well who is the on call surgeon on her case?" I asked.

Jo's face lit up. "It's Owen and Richard."

"Call Owen and ask him." I got up snd headed for the door.

"Wait where are we going?" she asked dialing Owen's number.

"We are going to the E.R. to find Maggie to get the security footage for the night." I said.

We arrived down in the E.R. It was packed. Every bed was in use. I found Maggie yelling at an intern for not knowing how to draw blood. I waited for her to be done and I noticed she looked relieved to see me. "Great. We are short on staff. Grab a gown. We got a GSW to the leg. Some idiots thought it would be a good idea to play hide n seek in the snow and use a BB gun to find each other while shooting the snow."

"Maggie I'm not here to help."

"Your not?"

"No I need the code for the security cameras."

"Why do you need that?" she asked.

"I'll tell you later. Can you just give it me."

"Fine the password for the security cameras is 1215 for the years we lost Mark, Lexie, and..."

"Okay thank you Maggie." I replied walking towards the security room.

I went to grab the door handle when I heard Jo's voice. "Amelia, Amelia! It's the same eye. Meredith's eye that's bruised is the same eye as Derek's."

My face lit up and I opened the door to the security footage. "It's a big stretch but I have a feeling both attacks are connected." I explained.

I typed in the password to access the footage. We started at the time Derek was found at the E.R. We noticed no one was around him at the time except the person who told Bailey he was found in the snow. We fast forwarded a few hours. "There." Jo screamed.

We slowed down the footage and saw two men. They were sitting outside the hospital. For a long time. We noticed when Meredith exited the hospital the hid behind an ambulance. The way the camera was positioned we could see them put ski masks on and pull out crowbars from their bags. They crept over towards Meredith then BAM. I turned the camera off. I looked at Jo. We both stared at each other frozen. I turned the computer back on and rewind the film. I recorded it onto a CD (increase someone came looking to delete stuff) and I put it in my pocket. I told Jo to warm Maggie there were possible killers in or around the hospital. She nodded and headed out.

I grabbed a stack of notebook paper and headed out the door. I stopped and grabbed some coffee from the cafeteria and I locked myself in an empty room on the PEDS floor. I don't want anyone to hear my conversation with the people I was about to talk to. I pulled out my phone and dialed a number. Someone picked up. "Hello Agent Henthworth and Kover how may we help you?"

"Hello it's me Dr. Amelia Shepherd. You gave me this number incase we ever had any possible evidence  for my brother Derek's case. Well I have some information that might be useful."

"And what is that?"

"I think I might have footage of the men who beat Derek. His wife Meredith was also best to almost to death and both Derek and her have identical  bruisers in their left eyes."  I explained.

"Alright Dr. Shepherd, you stay put. We are on our way."

The phone was immediately hung up. I grabbed the notebook paper and went on the internet. I searched for any helpful information on government officials kidnapping people and people going missing around D.C. I noticed there were a lot of people reported missing who were working on government led projects. I also saw many congressmen and senators were fired. There were no reason for their departures. I wrote on the paper. Hoping anything I found could be useful to Agent Kover and Henthworth. Soon I felt tired again. The coffee wasn't keeping me awake. I yawned and rested my head on the cold floor of the empty PEDS room. I drifted off for what felt like a second. Apparently it wasn't because when I woke up I had twenty unread messages and my coffee was cold.
