Chapter 95 (Amelia)

The wind blew softly, but just enough to raise my skirt an inch. The rain pattered heavily on the pavement. Seattle yet again, was in the midst of another long rain storm, except this time snow was expected towards the end of the week.

The sliding doors of the arrival terminal opened. A mob of people exited the small opening. I rose onto my tippy toes to see if I could find the person I was looking for. Suddenly, I saw him. He smiled so big and walked towards me with open arms. I lowered the umbrella and braced for a hug.

"I missed you so much." he claimed.

"I missed you too." I grinned.

He let go on me, but kept his hands on my shoulders. He looked me up and down. "Jeez, you look stunning. Honestly, I was expecting you to show up 10 minutes late in scrubs and maybe a patient with his brain half exposed in the back seat of your car." he chuckled.

I shoved the umbrella in his chest. "Very funny."

We walked quickly to the car which was parked on the other side of the road. I got inside and put my seatbelt on. Link sat right beside me in the passengers seat. He leaned over and kissed my check as I adjusted my review mirror. "So what's the deal with the business attire? Not that I don't like it, it's just, c'mon Amelia I've been gone for 2 days. You couldn't have changed your style that quick."

I rolled my eyes then smiled. "Today was the Grey Sloan Board meeting to officially rehire Derek onto the team. As head of Neuro, I kinda had to be there."

"Oh I totally forgot. It feels like I've missed a lot in these last two days."

3 days ago:
"Hey Link your phone is ringing." I stated as I took the pizza out of the oven.

Link went into the living room and began talking. Even though I didn't mean to snoop, I could slightly hear what he was saying.

A few minutes later he paced back and forth in the kitchen. "You okay?" I asked, concerned.

"My best friend, who is living out in Chicago,  just fell out of a tree. They asked me to fly in and fix his legs."

"Oh my gosh! Is he okay? He must be if it's just some bones you need to put back together."

"No you don't understand. I won't be the only surgeon in there. He has suffered a punctured lung and he has an aneurysm."

"Oh..." I replied.

"What should I do. I don't want my emotions to get in the way, but I can't let any random surgeon fix his legs. He's a runner and he has 3 young kids who he is constantly keeping up with."

I walked over to him and cupped my hands around his cheek. "Whatever you feel is right."

He ended up going and 2 days later he returned.

present day:

"So since this meeting is over do you have to rest of the day off?" he smiled, digging in his carry on for snacks.

"As a matter of fact I do." I smiled.

He stopped and looked at me. "You know...we could have an amazing day...let's say...in bed." he smirked.

I reached into the glove compartment and pulled out a list. I slapped it into his chest and put the car in drive. As I merged onto the highway he spoke. "What is this?" He was puzzled.

"It's a list." I replied, focusing on the road.

"For??" he began.

"Well Meredith has been busy with work, so she hasn't been able to set aside time to do Christmas shopping. It's literally in less than a week and the only things that have showed up at our house either came from Amazon or Target. And let me tell you...it wasn't much."

"Uggg why do we have to do it though? Cant Derek or Richard or someone else do it."

"I think it would be a perfect bonding time for us and it can teach us a little bit about gifting because one day processed baby food won't be enough to keep Scout happy on Christmas morning."

"Ugg fine." he mumbled.

He leaned back into his chair and ate his chips.

We arrived at the mall and began our quest for presents. We stopped at many clothing stores, toy stores, and electronic stores.

As we were checking out of our last stop I heard a voice yell out my name. "Amelia?"

Before I even turned around, I could tell who was speaking. "April?"

She ran over to me and hugged me tight. "Girl what are you doing here?" I asked.

"Jackson and I are in town for the holidays. He wanted to see his mom and Richard."

"Why didn't you say something? We could've planned something."

"We didn't want to intrude or bother you...especially on Christmas."

"Well if you all aren't doing anything, come over and spend Christmas with us." I smiled.

"You know what...I may just take you up on that."

I told her I would call her in the next few days to see what she should bring.

Link and I drove home in complete silence until we reached our neighborhood. "Amelia, how are you going to tell Meredith we are hosting a holiday?"

"Honestly I have no idea." I replied.

Link put his hand on his head and sighed. "You always get yourself into these things."

"Well you know...this is what happens when you put Auntie Amelia in charge of Christmas shopping."

We pulled into the driveway and walked up the stairs. I could already tell the temperature was dropping and a snow storm was coming.

I opened the door and was greeted by Meredith, Derek, Maggie, Winston, and the kids in the living room playing.

Everyone walked over to Link to welcome him home. I took my shoes off and gathered everyone into the living room. I hesitated at first. "What is it Amelia?" Meredith ask.

I took a deep breath and just blurted it out. "Guess who is hosting Christmas for everyone this year?"
