WARNING SOME PARTS IN THIS CHAPTER MAY BE TO MATURE FOR SOME AUDIENCES!!

I stared out the window as Meredith drove home. She focused on the road and didn't even bother to talk to me. She wasn't mad, just overwhelmed. We pulled into the driveway and she turned off the car. She looked at me and grabbed my shirt. Just like before she pulled me close and kissed me. "And what was that for?" I asked.

"To remind you that I love you." she smiled.

She got out of the car and walked to the front door. She unlocked it and I could hear screams from inside. It was the children. I watched as they ran to her and hugged her. I was scared to walk inside the door. My heart was beating so loud. "Well are you going to go in?" a voice behind me asked.

I turned around. It was Amelia. "Umm...I'm not sure."

"If you don't go in there, I'm calling mom to come down here and kick your ass. You know she will do it." Amelia laughed.

I rolled my eyes and walked to the door. I opened it and stepped inside. My presence was enough to make the whole room silent. The children looked at me, frozen in place. Maggie entered the living room where we stood and quickly turned back around and left once she realized what was going on. This was it. This was the moment my kids would meet their dad..and actually remember it.

Ellis took a few steps closer to me and locked eyes with me. She wasn't frowning nor smiling. She looked just like her mother. I kneeled down and got on her level. To my surprise, she ran straight into my arms, almost knocking me down. I hugged her and kissed her head. She pulled away snd smiled at me. "I missed you." she stated.

"I missed you too." I smiled, brushing the hair out of her face.

She turned and gestured for Bailey and Zola to come over. Both of them hugged me tight. They never wanted to let go. I could see Meredith crying as she too came over and joined in. We sat there for almost five whole minutes just appreciating each other's touch and presence....

Bailey called me to his room. When I walked inside he had all of his legos he had built on display. "Did you build all of these?"

"I did." he replied.

"Wow this is amazing." I gasped.

He went into his closet and pulled out a box. He handed it to me. It was a lego of the Seattle Space Needle. "What is this?" I asked.

"Aunt Maggie found this at the mall the other day and she thought it was something cool to add to my collection. I was wondering if maybe you would want to build it with me?"

"He's not going to have time for that, Bailey." Ellis said, walking in his room with a bunch of princess dresses. "He has plans already."

"What type of plans do I have?" I questioned.

"Yes what plans?" Bailey repeated.

"He has to be in my room in exactly...oh I don't know...five minutes. I promised all my stuffed animals they could meet my dad over tea." she smiled, handing me a crown.

"Ellis, Daddy doesn't have time for that. He is going to be helping me with building this lego." he yelled.

"No he's not. He is going to be having tea with me." she yelled back.

"Alright calm down you two." Meredith said walking into the room. "Look your daddy isn't going anywhere. You have so much time to spend with him, but right now both of you need to brush your teeth and get into bed."

"Awwww." the children frowned.

Ellis handed me all her dressed and Bailey put his lego box on his desk. They both walked to the bathroom to get ready for bed. I walked into Zola and Ellis's room. I put the dresses in a bin with other costumes. I saw Zola reading in her bed. I walked over to her and sat on her bed. "Hey." I smiled.

"Hey." she repeated, not loking up from her book.

"Good book?"

"Mhm."

"Well I just want to let you know I love you and goodnight."

She put her book down and smiled at me. "I love you to Dad."

I walked out the room and watched as Meredith tucked Bailey into bed. She then went to tuck Ellis in, but Ellis stopped her. "Not until I get a goodnight kiss from everyone." she demanded.

Meredith rolled her eyes and called for Maggie and Amelia. Both came running up and walked over to Ellis. "I love you Ellis goodnight." Amelia said. kissing  her on the head.

"Goodnight Ellie." Maggie smiled.

They exited the room. I stood in the doorway as I watched Ellis still not budge.  "Ellis everyone gave you a goodnight kiss. Can you please go to bed now?" Meredith asked.

"Not everyone gave me a kiss." she pouted.

"Honey Link isn't here. He is sleeping at the hospital." Mer explained.

"I know." she replied.

"The who hasn't kissed you?"

She pointed to me in the doorway. I walked over to her and sat at her bedside. I leaned in and softly kissed her on the cheek. "Goodnight sweety." I smiled.

She laid back in her bed and pulled the covers up high. "Goodnight Daddy."

We walked out the room and Meredith shut the door behind her. I followed her into our room. She laid down on the bed and rubbed her eyes. "Ahh I'm so tired." she yawned.

"How tired." I smirked.

She threw a pillow at me and I caught it. "You are terrible. Now go to bed."

I threw the pillow back at her and jumped onto the bed. Meredith tried to fight back, but she was too tired. I grabbed her and pulled her close to me. She looked up at me and kissed me. I sat up and cupped her face. She started to unbutton her shirt and she smiled. She stopped kissing me and walked into the bathroom. She shut the door and a few moments later threw all her clothes out in front of me. She turned on the water and said nothing.

I know she was trying to tease me...and it was most definitely working. I locked the bedroom door and headed over to the bathroom. I opened the door and found Meredith in the shower...naked. She looked at me shaking my head at her. "Derek get out of here. Can't you see I'm busy?"

"Yes busy doing me." I smirked removing all my clothes.

I opened the shower door and pushed Meredith up against the wall. I kissed her passionately and she took a deep breath. She locked eyes with me and wrapped her arms around me. I kissed her as she dug her nails into my bare back.

Mer got out of the shower and collapsed on the bed. I helped her get dressed and I cuddled with her until she fell asleep. After about an hour, I too became very tired and turned off the light. Today I had realized something, something I learned in grade school. The saying was: find a penny, pick it up, then you'll have years of good luck.

Meredith was my lucky penny and she brought me good luck always. She gave me a chance to be a good husband, a good doctor, a good father. She gave me hope that this cruel world had some happiness in it. Even when Mer was at her lowest points she never bailed or gave up on me. She was my forever and this family we built in this little Seattle home was what I had been looking for, ever since I was a young  boy.
