Chapter Nineteen Evalyn
I heard the cabin door either open or close but I didn’t really care. Rolling over I told myself that I was just going to nap for another five minutes before I would get out of bed and face the cold outside of my sleeping bag.
I ignored the whispered, figuring some of the girls had woken up earlier then everybody else and were getting up for the day. Suddenly the trumpet next to my ear had my up and out of my sleeping bag. Mr. Conner stood there with a huge grin on his face, as well as the three other student teachers who were all holding trumpets as well.
“Time to get up girls! Roll call will be in ten minutes up in the dining hall and then breakfast before we get to rehearsals,” Mr. Conner said as he turned to leave the cabin.
“That was not a nice way to wake up,” I whined as I slowly got out of my bed, looking for my backpack. I could hear the trumpets in the next cabin as the sleeping campers were forced awake; at least we weren’t the only ones who got the wakeup call.
Vic pulled her blanket over her head and rolled back over- I wasn’t the only one who was not a morning person. The other girls were already up and getting dressed, despite the chilly air. All I wanted to do was jump in with Vic under the covers, stay there all day, and warm up. But, instead of doing that, I pulled Vic covers off her body. We didn’t want to miss roll call. She glared at me as I tossed her blankets on my bunk so she wouldn’t roll up in them again, throwing her bag at her instead.
When we were finally ready a few minutes later, we tossed on our shoes and headed up to the dining hall. We could see others as they left their cabins and slowly headed up as well.
I pulled out my cell phone and sent a quick text to Owen, ‘Vic and I are heading up to the dining hall now. I’ll save you a seat’.
I got a text back just as we were entering the dining hall, ‘See you there. I’m just leaving my cabin now’.
I smirked as I decided to be a little mean with him. ‘Run. Conner already started roll call’, I texted him and I put my phone away as we sat at an open table waiting for everybody else to join us. Owen and Carter came running into the hall in a full out sprint and I couldn’t help but break down and laugh at the look on their face when they realized they weren’t late. It was all I could do to not point and laugh at them!
“You little brat,” Owen hissed as he took a seat beside me.
I smiled innocently up at him as I asked, “What did I do?”
“You know what you did. You’re going to pay for that,” he playfully threatened.
“Morning guys,” said Isabella as she took a seat next to Carter, leaning over and giving him a big kiss – which wasn’t something I wanted to see before breakfast… or anytime!
Before I could tell them to get a room, Mr. Conner stood up and got every bodies attention, “Good to see you all managed to wake up and get out of bed so early in the morning. I’m going to do a quick roll call to make sure nobody snuck off in the night and then were mauled by a bear. Then after we eat we’re going to start rehearsals! Ok, Nicole Avery?” and so began the long lines of names.
