Empty cigarette, still smoking
Baby pacifier, abandoned and dirty
Two socks, one black and one white
She sits among it all, at peace and calm
Passersby shoot her looks, that poor girl
Long stringy black hair, greasy
Bright eyes like the ocean, blue
Nose smack in the center, broken
Open mouth and pale lips, bleeding
Soft skin and freckles, desperate
Candy bar wrapper, chocolate inside
Pepsi can, kicked over and spilled
A plastic bag drifts, free to fly
She holds out a cup, money = food
A kind face dumps in coins, just change
Short hair in tight curls, soft
Bright eyes like the moon, grey
Nose tiny and fragile, perfect
Open mouth screaming for food, loud
Soft skin and tiny body, hungry
Mother and baby, sit on sidewalk
Strangers pass by, some care and some don't
Day in and day out, baby grows frail
Mother tries desperately, to keep her alive
But the world is too cruel for a little baby.
