Chapter 13 : The Price of Recklessness

'What is happening?! Am I exhausted to this extent? It can't be, I was conserving my stamina!' Meliodas says in his thoughts

The problem wasn't his exhausted body but rather his depleting mind or mana. Bell was using/spamming magic a lot before and after entering the dungeon like a little kid. Bell wasn't taught of the term 'Mind Down' yet from Eina because she thought Bell wasn't gonna get any magic for a while and didn't bother telling him.

Bell, despite not being the one fighting out there, fell asleep or went mind down or mind zero already. No matter who is using the magic, they will feel the effects of mind down at the same time.

The minotaur saw the opportunity and charged at Meliodas, successfully hitting him into the wall, he coughed out a bit of blood, but the darkness from the [Demon Mark] coated him, protecting him a bit. Meliodas urged all the will he could muster and attack the minotaur. Meliodas with his broken dagger and used 'Hell Blaze' to try cut the minotaur down but then the flame dispersed.

'Is he an idiot?' Bete whispered

They were both intensely watching , they want to see how this fight would conclude as they cursed at the boy's ignorance.

In the world of Britannia, the concept of mind down doesn't exist, when someone overuses mana, they won't experience the feeling of losing consciousness like in the world of danmachi instead they just won't be able to use magic for a while and they have to wait for their mana to recharge or use external methods to speed up the recovery. 

This confused Meliodas, he momentarily forgot that this world is not the same as his old one, even his [Demon Mark] deactivated, he realized that when he rushed at the minotaur with his broken dagger, he was slower and also add the effect of mind down he was even more sluggish compared to even before he used [Demon Mark]. The only reason he is not unconscious right now, is because of his willpower alone that kept him standing.

Unlike Meliodas who was in a disadvantageous state, the minotaur only suffered small cuts around his body, 13 cuts to be exact but they weren't deep enough to have any drastic effect in its overall power. In a normal scenario, Meliodas and the minotaur would be relatively equal in terms of raw stats, but Meliodas without a doubt would win hands down because of his superior skills, techniques and experience.

But Meliodas is fighting both the Minotaur and the feeling of losing consciousness. 

When his flames dispersed. the minotaur caught on and went to tackle Meliodas, he leaped to the side barely dodging the Minotaur. He accidentally dropped the broken dagger, before Meliodas could come and pick it up, the minotaur quickly charged back at him at full force.

This time Meliodas wasn't able to dodge as the horn impaled his shoulder, causing him to scream in pain, the pain tolerance compared to his old body and Bell's was vastly different. He has suffered damage way worse than getting impaled on the shoulder before but felt that this pain that he experienced was one of the worst feeling he ever felt in a while, cause Bell's body wasn't used to feeling pain yet. 

He lost the feeling of his left arm as it just dangled there, he used his legs and then used the minotaur's head as a foothold and jumped backwards, releasing himself from the minotaur's grasp.

The onlookers just stood there, they were so immersed in the battle that they didn't pay attention to the monsters that were coming at them. They want to see how this would end and if it looked like he was gonna die they would step in.

"This reckless idiot, to think for a second I was actually impressed makes me sick, step back Ais, if you are not gonna step in, then I will" Bete says, thinking that with that sort of injury and the condition that he was currently in, the boy stood no chance.

"To think I wasted my precious time on this idiot weakling, pisses me off" Bete stepped forward. 

But Ais raised her arm to stop Bete's advance. "Ehh?  you wanna see this kid die?" Bete says. Despite his jerk-like attitude, he wasn't much of an asshole to see someone die in front of him and he himself experienced his own loved ones die before joining the Loki familia

Ais shook her head, indicating a negative response. "Look closer, this battle is not over yet" Ais says.

"Tch, whatever, if he dies then this is on you" Bete says

Meliodas kept on dodging and dodging the minotaurs' attack, then using its own momentum against it to increase its power, he landed a kick at the side of its head when it charged at him in all fours which then sent the minotaur tumbling down on the ground. 

With this, he has given himself some time, first he tried to heal himself with his [Demon Mark] but when he did, he felt losing his consciousness even more despite the pain he felt. But managed to willed himself to remain conscious.

The onlookers were impressed by his willpower to delay the effects of mind down, he was supposed to be passed out by now from overusing magic but still remained standing.

He then grabbed his pouch that he dropped when the minotaur impaled him on his shoulder and drank a potion to quickly heal the damage he suffered. It didn't do much but the feeling on his left arm returned but he still couldn't move it.

The two who were watching realized he doesn't have a mind potion, they felt stupid for a second when they kept calling him an idiot in their minds for not drinking a mind potion before and thought he was just reckless, but then calling him an idiot again for not bringing a mind potion in the first place.

Then Bete couldn't take it anymore and yelled "YOU FUCKING IDIOT, YOU DIDN'T EVEN BRING A MIND POTION, I'M SUPRISED THAT YOU ARE NOT DEAD YET, WATCHING THIS FIGHT MAKES ME IRRITATED!!" which contradicts to what he said, he actually thought this small battle was a bit interesting as he has never seen an adventurer this experienced yet reckless at the same time. 

Meliodas finally glanced for the first time at his small audience and saw a human female with golden hair and golden eyes and a werewolf male with gray fur with a mean or irritated look on his face. 

Ais threw a high quality mind potion at Meliodas and he caught it, Bete wanted to protest that he she shouldn't waste her potions on this weakling idiot but the words got stuck on his throat because he wanted to see how this fight would end. 

Meliodas looked at the girl's face for a second and saw she had no ill intentions and drank the potion without hesitation even though he had no idea what it was. He was in a life and death battle, he needed all the help he could get, it was not his own life in danger but Bell's as well. 

He drank the potion and then Meliodas felt refreshed, as his mana/mind was slowly restoring almost immediately, he then knew what the potion did. Then right after he finished drinking, the minotaur stood back up and saw that Meliodas had a small grin on his face.
