Damien opened the front door of the restaurant for me -it was nothing special, it had a little bar on the inside, and a small stage for live performances. It was a little too late for live music, so they placed quiet, jazz music over the stereo. When we stepped in, the group on co-workers turned their heads and stared to us, then holding their drinks up in the air like they were toasting to him. Or me. I smiled softly as Damien grabbed me by the hand and directed me to the table where I sat next to him.
"What do you want to drink?" He shouted since the men and women gathered around the table were being a little too loud. We were the only ones in the building.
"Anything is fine, really. I'm not too picky."
He smiled and called over the waitress, whispering to her our orders. She smiled and then walked away back into the kitchen.
"Are these all your employees?" I asked.
Damien stared to them, taking time to look at each and everyone of their faces, "Oh no, not at all. You really think that only twenty people work at my company?" He chuckled and rested back into his seat, "I have over two thousand people working there."
"Wow." I gasped. The waitress came back and placed down two glasses of wine in front of us. I took a slow sip and nodded gently, "I didn't think you had that maybe people working there."
"I told you (Y/N), we take everyone in."
I smiled softly and turned to the group ahead of me. I was the alien in this situation. I rubbed my forearm and smiled back to Damien, who was no longer paying attention to me. He was now talking to the group. I just needed something to eat, and then I could leave.
I slowly stood up from the table and made my way to the bar, where I ordered a small -and inexpensive- meal. I rested my palm against my cheek, my eyes getting a little heavy as I sat there.
"Don't tell me that you're falling asleep during your celebration party." A man called behind me. As I turned, a man with brown hair and dark brown eyes sat next to me. He smiled warmly and ordered a drink, "Everyone's here for you, ya know?"
"No," I giggled, "Their here for the free food. Damien pays for everything."
"Yeah, free food is pretty great, but people like to meet the new co-workers." He placed down his beer bottle and held a hand out to me, "I'm Abe, Damien's co-owner of Damien's & Co. Well...one of his co-workers."
I gently shook his hand, "I'm (Y/N)." Abe smiled and grabbed his bottle again, taking a much longer sip. The man behind the counter then placed down my meal, then going back to handle Damien's large table.
"Oh, you came here for the free food?" He chuckled.
"Don't judge me." I giggled, "I just got this job, I basically spent all my money on gas this morning."
Abe laughed and nudged into me. I think he thought I was joking. Silence fell between us as I continued to eat my food, and Abe to drink his drink.
I then wiped my mouth and stood from the bar, "I better go, I have to go into work early tomorrow morning."
"Do you need me to drive you?" He offered.
"No, I'll get Damien to." I dismissed, "I'll see you later-"
"No, no." He grasped onto my arm -a little tighter than normal, "Let me drive you. Damien seems a little busy at the moment anyways."
"No, Abe, I've got it." I pushed my arm away from him, "Thank you though."
I grabbed my purse from the back of my chair and slung it over my shoulder, "I better get going, alright?"
He rolled his eyes and turned back to the bar, ordering himself another drink.
