By doctor's orders, the week following the accident I had been mostly been stuck in the bed. I wasn't supposed to do anything that would cause strain on my brain or body since both were still trying to heal. I was okay with it, I couldn't imagine leaving the manor at this point anyways. Damien and Cory were also a huge help, cooking me meals and helping me whenever I needed it.
It felt good to have Damien again.
My mind did wonder to Pam sometimes. I wondered where she was, or if we hadn't been in the accident, what she'd be thinking right now. I wouldn't be here with Damien, but did Pamela's life really cost that much? I tried not to think about it like that, as it felt a sour taste in my mouth.
Damien sat next to me on the bed, flipping through his weekly book he had picked up. Every now and again, he would look over to me to make sure that I was still okay. I felt warmth gather in my chest whenever he would lean over and kiss my temple before returning to his book. Made me think he was always thinking of me.
He then finally shut his book and shifted towards me, smiling for a moment before he opened his mouth, "What do you want for dinner, my love?"
A blush had returned to my face, "I'll take anything at this point, I'm starved!"
Damien looked astonished before helping me stand onto my feet, "I hate that you don't say anything until you're on the brink of starving to death."
I cringed at his wording, but choice not to poke at it.
As we stepped out into the hallway, Damien stopped for a moment with his breath caught in his throat. I shot him a look before I trace his glaze, meeting with another man that stood at the end of the hallway.
Damien and the man had the same build, maybe the man was more buff than Damien, but barely. The mustache on his face was black and thick, covering his upper lip but a smile was still displayed on the mans face. His brown eyes peered at Damien through his thin framed glasses.
"William?" Damien trembled.
"Oh bully!" The man named William awed, "I hope I didn't stop by at the wrong time!"
Damien stared at him for a moment before slowly releasing me and taking William into his arms, tightly embracing him. Both of their bodies trembled as the clutched each other for an extended period of time. A wave of dizziness rushed over me, causing me to clutch my head and lean against the wall. I swallowed hard and pushed the feeling away, turning back to the gentlemen.
"How are you, old friend?" Damien smiled, "Where have you been?"
"Ah, the amazon!" William smiled, "You know how it is."
Damien remembered my presence and took William by the shoulder and turn to face me once again, "Apologies! This is (Y/N)! She's my partner."
William's eye widened for a moment, cocking his head to the side before taking me by the hand and kissing the backside of my palm. His held eye contact for longer than needed, then letting go and returning back to his smiling face, "I'm William Fischbach, it's a pleasure to meet you."
"Fischbach?" I echoed, looking between him and Damien, "Meaning-"
"He married my sister, Celine." Damien smiled soberly.
"Sweet broad made me take her last name." William chuckled. It was awkwardly silent for a moment, William sit staring at me before Damien's clap cleared the air.
"I was just about to make dinner. Why don't you stay and get comfortable?"
William smiled sat onto the couch in the living room, watching Damien as he disappeared into the kitchen. I debated on following after him, but I decided not to and sat across from William. William stared down at his hands, anxiously fidgeting with his fingers and glasses. He had already taken off his coat from before, revealing his pale yellow button up and red suspenders. I thought it to be a wild get-up but I seemed to fit him as a person.
He seemed so familiar to me.
William then pulled a small envelope from his back pocket, folding it open and pulling it into my view. It was a photo of him, and who I could assume Celine. This was the most recent picture I had seen of her. Both looked so happy and charmed, the engagement ring glinting off of her ring finger. I felt an ache in my chest. She surprisingly looked like Pamela. Of course, not exactly. Celine didn't wear glasses and her lips where more red and plump. They shared a similar hairstyle, just in two different shades of black. He smiled, "This was my Celine. Do you remember her?"
"I never met her." I shamefully admitted, "But Damien spoke about her."
"How do you not remember my Celine?" He asked with anger in his voice, "She absolutely adored you." I didn't know what to say. He must've had me confused with someone else? I slowly looked away from him, deciding to look out the window instead of continuing the dead conversation.
"You look so much like her..." William trailed off. He stood and took the seat next to me, grasping my jaw with his hand and turning it towards the light, "It's magnificent."
"I look like who?" I questioned. I was too scared to remove my jaw from his grasp, afraid that it might send him into a spiral. He hyper focused on every detail of my face, each blemish and mark. He even took note of the texture of my skin before opening his mouth once again, "You look almost like Damien's late-wife."
My eyes widened at his response. He knew Damien's wife? How much did he know? How alike did we look? Is that why Damien wanted me? Is that why Damien wanted Mia? William then released my face and allowed his hand to fall back into his lap, the picture still out and exposed. I wanted to ask so much more about her, to learn more about what she and Damien did together, to learn more about what had happened to her. Pamela's death then reminded me not to. William then quietly stuffed the photo back into his pockets and removed his glasses from his face, rubbing it roughly before releasing a strong sigh.
"I never understood the choices Damien made." He frowned, "But I guess that's none of my business. I'm just a simple explorer."
"Can you tell me about her?" I blurted aloud, "About Damien's wife?"
He looked at me, confused before he cleared his throat, "They met through Celine. They went to college together, shared a dorm room. They immediately hit it off from the first meeting. She was engaged, and left her fiancé to be with Damien, that's how much they were into one and another." William then took a sharp breath, "Celine...passed away and shortly after, Damien's partner got sick. They quickly got married, and within a few hours, she followed after Celine."
William stopped, tears forming in his eyes as he looked at me, though I don't think it was from me. He swallowed hard and wiped his eyes. He spun the ring around his finger for a moment before speaking, "It took Damien some time to recover from that. He chose therapy and friends, I chose the Amazon and my adventures."
Then, looking at me deeply into my eyes, he frowned, almost spitting at my face, "I can't understand how he made the choices he made."
"Old friend." Damien called from the kitchen doorway, using a towel to dry his hands, "Dinner is ready. Why don't you come join us?"
William smiled and him, standing onto his feet. He grasped at my hand and gently pulled me up from the couch,
"Come join us, (Y/N)."
