I slowly grabbed my keys from the side drawer, then placing my other hand onto the front door.
"Where are you going?" Damien called.
"Out?" I mumbled.
"Dressed like that?" he sighed and rubbed his forehead, "You're going to work? I don't think so."
"I need to, Damien." I begged, "And I'm alright."
"You haven't been in the building."
"I'll be fine, please."
he stared at me for a moment before passing me and opening the front door himself, "Go."
I pulled the key from the ignition, then stepping out onto the concrete. God, I can't breath. I grasped onto my chest and sucked in a deep breath. The building loomed over me and casted a shadow that buried my body. I released the breath and opened the glass doors. Cold air smacked into my body, making my hair stand up.
"(Y/N)!" Someone called happily. I jerked my head to them. Pamela. She waved to me, "I've missed you!"
"I've missed you too." I smiled shyly. I pulled the clipboard towards me and signed in, "How are you?"
"Better. Therapy really helps, and Damien is making the process a hundred times better."
"That's really good." I smiled, "Now, where am I needed?"
"Damien's office. Abe is filling in for him and Chase since they're both out because of the incident. And I'm sure he'll be happy that you're finally here."
"Great."
I slowly opened the door. Abe was sitting at the large desk that sat in the center of the room. It didn't fit him like it did Damien. He seemed so out of place while he sat there. His brown eyes slowly met mine as he stood, "You're here?"
"I needed to come." I huffed, bouncing on my feet awkwardly, "What do you need?" Abe made his way over to me, and roughly placed his hand onto my forearm, rubbing it with his thumb, "Is everything alright? I'm surprised you -or even Pam- is back so soon-"
"I'm fine." I jerked my body away from him and rudely brushed away his touch. I pushed the hair away from my face and stared at him blankly as I repeated, "What do you need?"
"Uh, copies-" He flung to Damien's desk and ripped open the filing cabinet, then pulling out a large folder, "Go down and print these files. Then bring them back so they can be signed-"
"You can't sign off without Damien." I interrupted. I watched as his face contorted into anger as he rubbed his face, "I understand that. That's why they won't be sent until he comes back, and approves of them. Now go, please."
I ripped the folder from his grasp and held it close to my chest. We stared at each other for a moment longer before Abe let go of his stance and sat back down at the desk, opening the laptop and distracting himself. Coward.
I placed the pages onto the copy machine, then pressing some buttons to start it up. As it began to hum and the smell of fresh, hot paper filled the room, I leaned against the wall and watched as the clock counted the seconds and minutes of the day. The silence was frightening.
"Hey!" Pamela called from the doorway, "It's almost lunch time, if you want to go out."
I smiled slightly, disappointed in myself, "I'm sorry, I'm just not really hungry at the moment."
"Oh." She sighed and awkwardly rubbed her elbow, "I get it-"
"No, no. It's not that!" I defended myself, "I just haven't been able to eat, lately, since..."
