Damien returning to the company was something I didn't know I would have to prepare for. It was weird to have the building buzzing with gossip of Damien's arrival. Pamela was practically attached to my hip, whispering in my ear about the buzz.
"Did he tell you why he left?" Pamela began, "Or was he kidnapped? Cause that was the rumor that that stupid mail intern was spreading last week. OH! There was also that rumor that he was having a secret affair, but I guess that wouldn't make sense-"
I sharply elbowed her, causing her to yelp in pain before she sunk back behind her desk, then using her hands to cover her mouth, "You have to tell me something. What is going on?"
I rolled my eyes and flattened out my skirt against my thighs, then sucking in a deep breath. Once she realized that I wasn't going to let anything slip from my lips, she stopped and turned back to her computer. She mindlessly scrolled through the computer, opening random files and clicking on buttons. Pamela was about to bite her lip off trying to silence herself. I leaned in closer and dropped my head, "His mom passed away."
Pamela fell back in her seat, disappointed, "Oh."
I elbowed her again. She could at least hold some sympathy for him.
It didn't take long before Damien came right up to the desk, with a large smile on his charming face.
"Good morning, Pamela." Damien smiled, then pulling some flowers out behind his back and holding them out to me, "Love."
I tried to hid the blush from my face as I gently placed the florals onto the desk next to me, watching as he walked away, entering the elevator.
Pamela squealed with delight as she gestured to Damien and the flowers, "How are you not losing your mind over that?"
I shrugged and leaned back into my chair, not saying anything else.
Pamela gasped and rolled her eyes as she grasped tightly onto my shoulders, "Please tell me that you stopped seeing Chase. Please, (Y/N), please tell me that you are with Damien."
I laughed and stood from the desk, then smoothing out my skirt again out of habit. I was not going to have this conversation with her. She had been cheering me on since the day Damien left to fight for him. For the fact that he would return, and our lives would start up again as if it were normal. And maybe that were to be true. But something was holding me back.
I wasn't ready to run into Damien's arms just yet.
Maybe I just liked playing tag between the two boys.
"I'll be heading upstairs now." I grinned to her, then stepping onto the elevator.
To my surprise, Chase followed in close behind, slapping the 'Close Doors' button as hard as possible. He tried to brush the hair from his blue eyes, trying to seem calm and relaxed as he turned to me. Chase was dressed professionally, with a light grey button up stuffed into his black dress pants. It was strange to see him still looking so clean in this environment.
Chase then gestured breathlessly behind him, to where the lobby was, "It's like paparazzi out there." I laughed gently and smiled at him, absolutely charmed. Chase's eyes then lit up as he pulled something from his side bag, then placing it into my hands, "Here. Breakfast." It happened to be my favorite sandwich from that bagel placed down the road. I'm sure I had only told Chase about that place once. He really remembered?
"Thank you." I smiled after taking a bite. He tucked away the hair once more before shuffling his feet again, "What are your plans for today?"
"Ugh." I massaged my head, "Whatever I get told to do."
