47 . fate

"I just cannot believe this." Alice gushed as she spun around looking at their new house. "We have a house! Stairs, Jonny. We have stairs!" 

Jonny smiled down at the girl in awe, her excitement was always something that he loved seeing. She was so cute and he believed he would always be happy as long as she was. "It feels crazy doesn't it." 

She nodded, walking into her husbands arms, he immediately responded squeezing her tightly. Lifting her head up, she kissed him deeply feeling completely fulfilled. 

Adam had been helping them unpack all day with Lucie and the couple had left an hour before to go out for dinner. They had been laughing the whole time, Alice was feeling a lot better that day too. Sure, she still didn't feel her usual self exactly but much better than she had on Friday. 

"We have no food in." Alice reminded the boy as she walked into their new kitchen. It was beautiful, shiny black and white surfaces that the couple loved. "What takeout do you want?" 

"Hmmm, I don't mind." He shrugged. 

Alice pondered for a moment. "I think I'm craving Chinese, chow mein is calling my name." 

"Sounds good." Jonny chuckled. 

"And Fanta, I really want Orange Fanta." She admitted, closing her eyes in thought of the combination. 

Jonny grinned, walking over to his wife and running a hand through her hair. "I'll go out and collect the food and I'll get you some Fanta from the shop." 

"You are the best!" Alice smiled widely, jumping up into Jonny's arms and kissing his neck over and over again. 

Jonny moaned slightly as the girl kissed and sucked his neck slightly harder, pushing her body gently into the wall and gripping her legs tighter as he held onto her securely. "You keep doing that and you'll be getting something other than the Chinese food."

Alice giggled, wrapping her arms around his neck tighter. "As much as I want you, I am starving." 

"Tease." He huffed jokingly as he set her down on the floor and kissed her one more time before he went into the hallway and put on his new coat. 

Alice followed him out, her eyes widening as she saw the unfamiliar outerwear that looked like Jonny had wrapped himself in tinfoil. "What the fuck is that?" 

"It's my new coat." He grinned. "Isn't it cool." 

"Sure, I just thought I'd married Jonny Goodman not Buzz Lightyear." She scoffed.

"Well, I love it." He replied quickly, assuring himself as she laughed. 

"And that's all that matters, honey. But just know, all the horniness I felt a few seconds ago, completely gone." 

Jonny shook his head, sending a wink her way. "As if you could ever be turned off me." 

"I didn't think it was possible but that coats sure trying." She laughed again. "Now go and get my food."

"Your wish is my command." She saluted her with a nod. "Oh, do you need any tampons?" 

"What?" Alice asked, taken off guard. 

Jonny faltered at her confusion. "There's none in the bathroom and this is usually around the time you ask me to go and get you some. I figured that might be why you've been feeling so sick." 

Alice stayed still, her eyes widening as her thoughts whirled around. She had completely forgot about her period in the hustle of everything that was going on around her, but she knew it should have arrived a few days ago. Thinking about her nausea too, she could not believe she hadn't thought about the possibility before. 

"Alice." Jonny said, snapping her out of her thoughts. 

"Get a pregnancy test." She said bluntly, slightly numb after the thought of her possibility. 

"What?" 

"Just do it Jonny, please." Alice stressed, running a hand through her hair and running up the stairs. 

She heard the door close as she got to their bedroom and began unpacking the last of her clothes, cleaning and organising always calmed her down slightly when she was stressed and she would definitely need it now. 

Trying to keep her mind clear, she spent the next twenty minutes folding and hanging her things repeatedly until she heard Jonny walk back into the house. She stayed put until she heard his footsteps on the stairs and the bedroom door open behind her. 

Jonny Goodman's mind had been whirling too at the unexpected possibility. He had not been expecting that at all. However, on the drive to the shops and the wait as he stood in the Chinese restaurant, he had imagined having a baby with Alice and it had made him feel warm inside, even if he hadn't been picturing it happening for a few years. Whether she was pregnant or not, this was fate and he had been making it his mission to stop being scared of things that he could not control, like his love for Alice and the course of life. 

Sitting down on their king-size bed, he placed the pregnancy test down on the bed and pulled the woman onto his knee. One arm wrapped around his neck as the other stayed nervously on her lap. 

"So you think your pregnant?" He asked softly, sensing her nerves. 

She shrugged. "My period is late, I've been feeling ill." 

"But you're on the pill." He stated in confusion. 

"I know, I don't get it." She admitted quietly. "I guess I forgot to take it. Or, we were drinking a lot in Cornwall maybe one day when I was hungover and threw up it kind of, left my system. I don't really understand." 

They stayed silent for a few seconds before Alice took a large deep breath. 

"I'm gonna go and do it now." 

As the woman went to stand up, Jonny grabbed her hand pulling her back into her previous position. With his hand moving to the back of her head, he pulled her down until their lips met lovingly. "It's okay if you are, Al. We're going to be happy."

She smiled, nodding her head and kissing him once more before making her way into the bathroom. The next five minutes went by slowly as Alice stayed in the bathroom and Jonny lay down on their bed. Alice was breathing heavily as she waited until the timer went off on her phone and she picked the test up, walking back into the bedroom with her eyes clenched closed. 

"What is it?" Jonny asked, sitting up quickly. 

"I haven't looked yet." Alice shook her head. 

Jonny stood up and strode over to her quickly, taking hold of her hand. "Well let's turn it over together." 

She nodded and together, they watched as Alice turned over the test. Both gasping loudly as they saw the results. 

"Pregnant."
