Alice and her friend Jess sat in a fancy bar in town drinking raspberry gin and lemonade. A sparkly skirt and black top were flattering her figure completely and her hair was down, falling around her happy face. The two girls were giggling together about many different things, from old school memories to funny stories they were catching up on since the last time they spoke.
"So, are you still close to Adam Goodman?" Jess asked curiously.
"Yeah, really close." Alice nodded. "I'm actually kind of seeing his brother now, did you ever meet Jonny?"
"No, I don't think so. I hope he's nicer than his brother though." Jess scoffed.
Alice narrowed her eyes. "What do you mean, J?"
"My friend Hayley just went on a date with him and he never called her back."
"Your friends with Hayley Posner?" Alice asked, not believing the connection.
"Yeah, we work together." Jess explained. "Do you know why he did it because she's really upset about it you know."
Alice looked around awkwardly. "He had his reasons."
"Come on Al, she was crying to me!" Jess begged.
Alice put her head in her hands, wanting to keep Adam's secret but also feeling a bit loose with her words due to the many cocktails that she had consumed over the last few hours. "Okay, she kind of reminded him of his mum. Apparently she smelt like her."
"What the fuck!" Jess said loudly, not sure whether to giggle or cringe. "That's so odd."
Alice went to reply when her phone began to ring, the familiar song of the Harry Potter theme tune blasting through the bar. She blushed and looked at the ID, "Speak of the devil" she muttered before bringing the phone to her ear.
"Hiya Adam." She said with a smile, even though he could not see her. "I'm kind of tipsy, is this important?"
"Yeah it actually is."
"What's happened?" The girl was suddenly alert.
"We're taking Jonny to hospital." The boy explained. "We think he's dislocated his shoulder. You don't have to come, I just wanted to let you know. He didn't want to worry you though."
"Oh my god!" She said in surprise. "Erm, I'll get a taxi there in a few minutes. See you soon."
"Okay, bye. Stay safe, Al."
She hung up the phone and looked worriedly at her friend. Muttering apologies, she explained the situation. Jess was supportive as always, hugging Alice goodbye and telling her to update her on the situation. Alice was beginning to think she should stop doing anything on Fridays, the Goodman dinners always seemed to end in eventful disasters. She made her way out of the bar quickly, hailing a taxi and anxiously waiting to arrive at the hospital. When she did, she ran inside getting directed by a nurse to a room where the family was waiting.
