Tubbo

Tommy was tripping over his own words as he tried to tell me his hurried plan to escape as fast as possible. I just stared blankly at the portal; I'd already accepted that it was my time to go. Dream had won and backed us into a corner, there was no point in fighting anymore.

"I'll tell you what we're gonna do. We're gonna make a break for the portal; we can run all the way back to my place, 'cause I have the secret portal on the exile base. If we run to that, then we-"

"We'll be dead before we get to the portal. Too much of a distance," I interrupted Tommy's rambling and turned to him. "It's alright. We had some laughs, it was- it was fun while it lasted, but..."

"Wh- Why've you just accepted it? Don't just accept it now! We don't-"

"We've been backed into a corner."

"We don't just accept defeat, alright? We never do!" He shouted over me, ignoring my observation of our situation.

"We're literally trapped; there's nowhere to go below, we can't climb up..."

"We don't- We don't accept that shit, man. We've never-"

I cut him off again. "We'll be dead before we get to the portal. But, it's fine, we had some-" I paused as I turned to where Tommy was staring, and we watched as the platform we'd entered on began to slowly ascend out of our reach. "Oh, well, there goes our lift out; and, yeah, that was our only other option. I- yeah. It's over," I turned back to face my friend. "We had some laughs, it was fun, y'know.. All good things must come to an end eventually, I just didn't think that this would be- This would be my- my 'coming to an end', if you will."

"No, but- Tubbo, what am I.. What am I without you?" Tommy was looking at me with sad, desperate eyes, but his feelings changed nothing.

"Yourself." I told him after a few moments of silence.

He let out a shaky breath. "So, you really- Are you accepting this?"

"Yeah, it's.. It's alright. Hey, it was fun, we said our goodbyes already - at the start." I said, remembering how all of our friends had stood on the sides of the Prime Path to wish us luck before we left to confront Dream.

"But that was- Yeah, but, we were optimistic; you know that we were. The whole way here, we were bantering, and I was.. We were optimistic, this isn't- This isn't what..." He trailed off.

"Well, y'know, when you get backed into a corner.." I paused for only a second, thinking about how to phrase my words. "This is- Y'know how he described me as a pawn? This is checkmate. This is it; this is the end. I suggest you resign."

Tommy looked down. "Tubbo.. Even though, this entire time, I've always regarded you as my 'sidekick', I- really, Tubbo, I was- I was your sidekick."

"No..." I chuckled with a smile.

"Please, don't go..." He muttered, something in his eyes begging me to stay. I turned away; I couldn't look at him in that moment.

"It's fine," I sighed, walking over to Dream. "It's about time, anyway."

"Say your goodbyes." Dream spoke up, and I heard him take a step closer to me.
