This short oneshot takes place before Tommy goes to visit Dream again. Also, since I don't know enough about what causes hypothermia, how dangerous it is, and how to properly treat it, I'm going to replace it with Tubbo just being too tired and cold and passing out from exhaustion instead.
TubboThe tunnel to the nuke testing site was almost finished. I'd spent the entire previous week mining it out, occasionally with Jack's help, and had barely gotten any sleep. Somehow, I'd also lost my jacket and misplaced my armour, so I was freezing cold - but I was too determined and stubborn to take a break. I promised myself that I was going to get the tunnel finished before the testing day, and I was not about to break that promise.
It was snowing quite heavily when I was collecting the ice to use in the tunnel. The sun had set hours before, which only added on to the freezing cold air biting at my face and stabbing at my partially numb fingers. I just pushed through it, forcing my shaking hands to move. I needed to finish the tunnel.
At some point, my arms stopped moving. I couldn't feel anything past my elbows, and my feet felt like they were bleeding - I hadn't sat down or taken any type of break in hours. Then, my head started to feel too heavy for my neck to support, and I fell fowards.
TommyI hadn't talked with Tubbo in a few days, so I'd decided to pay him a visit after collecting some materials for Sam Nook so he could build the rest of my hotel.
As I stepped off the top of whatever 'tunnel' thing that connected Snowchester to the mainland, I noticed that it was strangely quiet.
"Tubbo?" I called. There was no reply. I couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong.
I called out again, walking around a wall and looking around. "Tubbo? Where are you?"
Everything remained silent.
I started heading towards his house, intending to check if he was just sleeping or something, but then something by the docks caught my eye.
Someone was slumped forward, kneeling on the ice with their head dunked in the freezing water. They were just wearing a plain white shirt with rolled up sleeves - if they didn't get inside or put a jacket on soon, they would probably freeze to death. A discarded diamond pickaxe lay beside them. Concerned that they were drowning, I ran over to help.
I grabbed hold of their shoulders and pulled their head up, almost choking on my own breath when Tubbo started violently coughing up ice water and gasping for air.
"What the fuck?! Why are you out here without a jacket or something?! How long have you been mining for?! And why were you drowning?!" I started to question him, gesturing at nothing frantically in some sort of mild, shock-induced panic.
Tubbo mumbled something a flicked his hand at me. He seemed exhausted.
I took a deep breath to try and calm myself before speaking again. Tubbo had slumped forward a bit and was now leaning against my leg slightly.
"Are you okay?"
"'M tired..." He yawned and rested his head against my chest.
"You're also freezing," I pointed out. If I had a jacket, I would've given it to him. "C'mon, let's get you inside."
Tubbo groaned in protest, but he still stood up with me and we walked over to his house to escape the cold air.
After I shut the door behind us, I turned around to see that he was already curled up by a warm lantern and pretty much asleep. I chuckled and joined him in the corner, wrapping my arms around him to help him warm up.
"Clingy." He muttered, half-asleep.
I scoffed and hugged him closer. "I'm not clingy."
Tubbo yawned again. "Yes, you are, Big Man."
"I'm not. Stop it."
He hummed, leaning his head against my shoulder. A few moments later, he started to snore.
