Prequel To 'The School Freak'

As it says in the request, this short oneshot is just explaining the accident that scarred and partially blinded Tubbo in 'The School Freak'.

I'd always loved watching fireworks. There would always be so many in my neighbourhood around Bonfire Night (or Guy Fawkes Night, as my parents preferred to call it) and I would end up barely sleeping so I could see them all. My sisters liked the fireworks a lot as well, but our parents were a bit hesitant to let us set off our own - we were chaotic little children, apparently. Mostly me.

When we were finally allowed to set fireworks off in the back yard, I was seven. My mum had gotten me one that was supposed to explode into a sparkling picture of a bee, and I was so excited.

My sisters got to set their fireworks off first, obviously with the help of our dad. Our mum was standing back with us, holding sparklers to give us when we asked for them.

Lani's one was set off first. It went up into the dark sky with a loud whistle, and then exploded into a pretty purple flower. All three of us squealed, clapping aggressively with joy. I almost clapped with the sparkler still in my hand, and my mum had to quickly take it away from me before I burned my hand or something.

"Alright, Teag, it's your turn!" Dad called from the end of the garden, a big smile on his face.

My sister shook her head. "I just wanna watch."

Dad gave her a look but then shook his head as well, bending down to set off the next firework by himself.

This one went up the same as the last, only it exploded into a little blue cat instead. I was already running across the grass towards our dad, eager to see what my firework was gonna look like.

He chuckled as I tackled his legs. "Woah, calm down, Tobes."

I looked up at him with a pout. "I wanna see the bee!"

"Okay, okay, c'mere, then." He said, the smile still never leaving his face.

As my dad went off to the side to actually get the firework, I heard another whistling sound. Other families had been setting of fireworks as well, so it wasn't strange, but this whistling sounded too close.

I turned to my mum and my sisters, who were standing by the back door, and they were all looking at a crackling blur of red that was shooting diagonally into our garden.

      Everything happened so fast.

One second, I was staring up at the rogue firework in awe, and the next, I was screaming on the ground.

My ears were ringing and my vision was white. Half of my body felt like it was on fire, burning and slothing away, leaving my muscles exposed. I just screamed and screamed until my throat hurt as much as my eye, and I eventually passed out.

When I woke up, I was quite clearly in a hospital. At first, I panicked that I couldn't see out of my left eye, but it turned out that there was bandages all over one side of my body, including my face. I calmed down a little, hoping that my partial blindness wasn't permanent.

Looking around with only one eye, I noticed that there were a lot of needles in my hands and arms, and every few seconds I would hear a little beep from the heart monitor beside me.

Suddenly, I felt movement by my foot, and I saw that my mum was sat my the end of the hospital bed on a wooden chair, looking at me with a relieved smile.

It was only then when I'd remembered what had happened, and my vision began to blur from the tears forming in my eyes.

"Oh, Toby, it's okay, I'm here." Mum said, moving closer to me and gently pulling me into a hug. I sobbed against her shoulder, wincing every time my throat reacted to the action.

I didn't really like fireworks so much after that.
