2 | New Friends

"How did they find you Amelia?" Alby asks as I sit on my bed. "Came into a run down building I was waiting in. A group of four people took me in when I was five after another group took my sister. I was with them for some time till they just disappear after a supply run. I was curled up in a corner when two soldiers showed up taking me bringing me here. My parents died by infection darts. Me and my sister got hit too but it did nothing to us. Our brother abandon us with a few others scared how we didn't change. Dr. Mary Cooper told me I was immune." I explain to them.

"I was living in a basement with my parents and younger sister, Lizzy but sure they changed her name too now. Suddenly, Wicked agents force their way in and demand to be able to take Lizzy away for testing. My dad grabbed a gun and fired two shots, both missing. One agent shot him and my mom dead. They decide to also take me too as a non-Immune control subject." Newt looks over at me and I give him a sad look. "Why would they wanna have a non-immune to test on?" Minho asks. "Probably to see how different we are in some tests." I speak up.

Later at night I couldn't fall asleep just not used to the new room. "Not used to the new room?" I hear Newt making me turn my head to see him looking at me. "Spot on." I sit up sighing. "It will just take some time. I did the same thing." He sits up too. "I'm sorry how you saw your parents die and you spilt from your sister." He just looks down making me get off my bed going to sit next to him. "I'm sure others gone though worst. Sorry you and your sister are separated too." He turns his head to look at me then I look at the other two sleeping.

"It's nice getting to talk to other people. I got to talk to this one boy for awhile along with my sister. Wicked stopped it because I'm a trouble maker at times." He slightly laughs. "Then you are in the right room. We are planning to sneak out of the room to play around in a few days. We wanna take notes on how much time they spend out there till they leave." I get a big smile on my face. "Sounds fun. I'm gonna try to get some sleep now." I get up going back to my bed falling asleep.

We plan and talk about how were going to sneak out tonight during the day in codes so no adults understand us. "We have about 15 seconds to make it around the corner before the camera pans back to us." I tell the three as I peak out the door before we sneak out of our room. "We can make it." Alby tells us. "Ready? Go." I whisper as we quietly run out of our room. We end up making it to the maintenance room where we goof around since it was some ways from where people hardly go around. We end up playing a game of hide and seek in the dark since the room was pretty big. "28, 29, 30. I got the light." Alby says turning it off as we stay hidden.

I was really close to where Minho was hiding out in the open hoping Alby walks right past him. He told me his strategy was smart because Alby wouldn't suspect any of us to be that dumb. Suddenly Alby runs into Minho making them fall on to the floor laughing about how dumb he was. "I thought it was smart. Just find Newt and Mia." Minho growls and I forget to hold in my giggle getting caught.

We end up regularly sneaking out at night and tonight we even found a way outside. "If I could survive on my own out there... I would run away from this place." I say looking out at the dark night. "I agree. There's no hope of us surviving out there." Minho says looking out then at me. "Let's get back before we get caught." Alby tells us and we sneak back to our room. Both Alby and Newt pass out fast while me and Minho sit on his bed talking. "Did you see the look on Newt's face outside?" Minho asks me. "He's scared because he knows he's not immune like us. He knows he really can't survive out there. And on top of all that he can only get sneak peeks of his younger sister when we sneak out. He really misses her." I look over at Newt sleeping.

"I wonder how long it takes for non immunes to get infected? I don't wanna lose him. He's our friend." Minho gets upset. "I don't wanna lose him either, Minho. Let's just not talk about it because I don't wanna think about it." I give him a hug before I go to my bed falling asleep.

Once again we snuck out to mess around with each other and Newt came back to us with two other people with him. "Alby, Minho, Millie. This is Thomas and Teresa. Found them sneaking around too." Newt introduces us. "Long time no see." I smile at the two. "Amelia." Teresa gives me a hug and I hug her back. "Nice to see you again Amelia." Thomas gives me a smile. "Oh this is the boy and your sister you told us about." Alby says and I nod my head.

Now instead of three of us it's the five of us that regularly sneak out to hangout with each other. We all get super closer with each other even more as time passes. Tonight we were going to show them the way outside of the building. "Is this a smart idea Amelia?" Thomas asks as we walk. "Not really but we didn't get caught the first time. Plus it's not like we're leaving. We just wanna show you two." I smile at him. As we turn the corner we run into Randall getting caught. "Well look what we have here? Now what will be the punishment?" He smiles at us then call more guys to take us somewhere. They take Newt somewhere else then us and I understand why when we are out in the Crank pit.

"Now walk." Randall tells us. We are forced to walk along a narrow corridor with Cranks pressing against the fences to our left an right. We've never been so scared of anything and I would rather listen than get this punishment again. When we go back, John Michael approaches us, holding a sign which said WICKED is good. We learn he has caught the Flare, too, but has enough sanity left to talk to us. Michael tells us that we need to find a cure, to help people like him, Cranks. But he realizes that it is too late for him. To his request, Randall grants him a mercy death. We only hear the shot putting an end to our midnight meetings for quite some time, until Teresa figures out how to hack the security system and feed camera loops to it, so we can meet again.

"Minho, what are you thinking?" I ask sitting at the end of his bed. "I'm tired of being here. I will not be imprisoned here." He looks over at Gally, who became a new roommate with us a month ago. He gives Minho a head nod making me confused. "What are you planning?" I ask him. "I'm getting out of here and Gally is helping me." I shake my head at him. "Minho, listen to me. I understand but it's not a good idea." I beg him not to do it but he doesn't listen to me. Both him and Gally got caught by Randall but only Minho is punishment. He never tells any of us what happened and he keeps to himself since then not participating in any midnight meetings anymore.

When the Mazes were finally up and running, we find out that Thomas and Teresa are not entering the Maze. They first took Alby from us and we had no clue who would be next to go up into the maze. "I'll be back." I get up sneaking out of the room going to talk to Teresa and Thomas. "What's so special about you two?" I ask walking into the room they spend most of their time but they don't answer. "Doctor Paige told me she asked you to help make the maze and you said no." Teresa speaks up. "Yeah because I'm sick and tired of all their tests. I didn't wanna put people through something I helped make." I explain to her as the doors open and Wicked soldiers say my name coming after me.
