Anna said that after that encounter we had in the university lawn more than two months ago, something already started between them. Hindi ko alam kung anong 'something' iyon but maybe it was their term for attraction or something.
She didn't explain in details how they got close but she said that they exchanged texts and secretly see each other after class. Then Jiro started courting her and still courting her until now.
"Do you know that this is a playboy?" Sabrina asked her and pointed at Jiro.
Sumimangot naman siya. "Was. I was a playboy. Past tense kasi."
"Shut up, monkey. I'm not talking to you."
Pinigilan kong matawa at nagkibit balikat na lang. We are inside this room for almost thirty minutes now and Sabrina was the only one asking. Nakikinig na lang ako sa kanila dahil wala din naman talaga akong masyadong itatanong.
Few minutes have passed and Sabrina was finally done asking. Tumingin siya kay Jiro habang naniningkit ang mga mata.
"Fine, you can court her. But if you hurt her, I'm gonna choke you to death."
Mukha namang hindi man lang na-threaten si Jiro at nagawa pang ngumisi.
"As if I asked for your opinion. I didn't even ask her if I can court her. Ikaw pa kaya?"
"You didn't ask her?" Sabrina asked and he nodded. "So you forced her?!"
"Wait, no!" Anna and Jiro answered in chorus.
"Then what's the meaning of that? How come you didn't ask for her permission before courting her?"
"Asking for permission before courting isn't really necessary, you know."
Sabay-sabay naman silang napatingin sa aking tatlo. Muntik pa akong mapaatras sa kinauupuan ko dahil sa gulat. Those words just came out from my mouth like it was automatically programmed.
"What do you mean?" Sabrina asked, curious.
I shrugged. "Courting is all about giving. And when you give, you just give. You don't ask for permission, for gratitude, or something in return. You just give."
Napakurap-kurap sila sa sinabi ko at hindi nagsalita. I had the feeling that they want to hear more so I spoke again.
"Kasi kung hihingi ka ng permiso at hindi sila pumayag, edi hindi ka na magbibigay? Hindi ka na manliligaw? Then that's not love. That will be just a simple question. But if you asked for permission and you were rejected, stopping isn't also an option. True love waits. That means, if you really want and love the person, you will just rest and wait for the right time. Permission isn't necessary when you want to court someone because it's your free will. But waiting for the right time also plays a big role in courting and that's something not every person can do. So—Okay, I'll shut up now."
Nanahimik na ako nang mapansing halos nakanganga na silang tatlo. They obviously didn't expect that from me and I can't blame them. For someone who never experienced being courted by someone or having a relationship with someone, that's really weird.
Ngumisi si Jiro at tumingin kay Sabrina. "Oh? Narinig mo 'yon? That's what I mean."
"Liar," Sabrina glared at him but smiled when she turned to me. "That's amazing, Cleo. Where did you learn all of that?"
I shrugged. "From reading and observation."
Nagkatinginan kami ni Anna at napangiti siya. She mouthed 'Lady Blue' and I just smiled. Well, being Lady Blue also taught me so many things.
