I rolled away from a massive Grimm made up of rocks. It's large arms swung wildly to attack all of us. My shotgun and chain were utterly useless against the behemoth, so dodging was basically all I could do. Ruby was jumping and flying all around the Grimm, slashing at it with her scythe. Jaune watched from he sidelines, trying to look for a weakness in the monster. As I dodged one of its rock fists, I noticed the Grimm's face stuck out of the rocks it was possessing, meaning it was vulnerable.
"Everyone! We need to target it's face! Go for the head!" I shouted.
Our teams started trying to make openings to attack the face. Ren and Nora ran around the Grimm firing their weapons, while Ranger tried attacking with her halberd. Ruby and I both watched as the Grimm attacked all of us, looking for and opening to strike the killing blow. Ranger jumped into the air, striking the Grimm with electrical arcs. inadvertently lighting its tree arm on fire. The flaming arm swung around, smashing everyone but Ranger, Ruby and me away. The slow but powerful attacks from the Grimm shook the ground, and we all were trying to find an opening to kill this bastard. Ruby jumped away from the Grimm's flaming tree arm, it lodging itself back in the ground. As the Grimm tried to tear its arm out of the ground, I saw that it wasn't trying to defend its face. The Grimm noticed me, yanking it's arm towards me. I saw the ground lift from its arm as it began to drag the tree towards me. I leveled my shotgun with its face ready to end the beast finally. The tree ran through the dirt faster now, as I squeezed the trigger. The shot ricocheted off of its body to the left of its face, and my back arched as Ranger tackled me to the ground.
"Ranger?! What the hell!?" I exclaimed.
Before the soldier girl could answer, the tree broke free from the ground. The Grimm raised its arm to crush us with it, its flaming trunk heating the air around us. As I braced to meet my end, Nora soared through the air and smashed the arm away with her hammer. A red cloud of rose petals picked Ranger and I off the ground and brought us up to the top of a nearby tree.
"Come on guys! Get it together!" Exclaimed Ruby.
As Ranger began firing her rifle at the Grimm, I noticed the actual width of the log arm. It was just wide enough that my chain could still wrap around it.
"Ruby, use your semblance to get me closer to that bastard!" I exclaimed.
I was quickly enveloped in rose petals again, before being thrown directly at the Grimm. If I couldn't find an opening, I'd make one. I flicked my chain around the log, swinging under it to land right over its face.
"Eat fire you bitch!" I sneered.
My shotgun echoed through the forest as blazing lead destroyed the Grimm's face. The mass of rocks and nature that made up the Grimm's body fell apart, crashing to the ground. Ruby flew through the debris and caught me, crashing to the ground as she couldn't quite carry me. I crashed against a tree, and Ruby landed on top of me, knocking the wind out of me. Ranger ran over to us immediately, trying to stand me up.
"Are you alright? Is anything broken?" Exclaimed Ranger.
"Ugh, Ranger! I had that Grimm before you tackled me!" I exclaimed.
Ranger's expression dimmed slightly, and her hand gripped her rifle tighter.
"You could've been hurt, that isn't a risk you need to be taking," reasoned Ranger.
"I would've been fine! This is the third time you've done something like that!" I exclaimed.
Ranger put her rifle over her shoulder and turned away from me.
"I'm just trying to keep us safe. Now let's go, we need to pick up Jaune's weapons," said Ranger.
Ranger lead us on back to the town with Ruby not only holding my hand, but caressed my wrist scar the whole way there. We entered the blacksmith's shop, picking up Jaune's weapons.
"Here you go, I've made all the modifications you needed. That crown made a great piece on the shield," said the blacksmith.
"Thanks," said Jaune.
Ranger walked up to Jaune and interlaced her fingers with his.
"Pyrrha would be proud of you Jaune," assured Ranger.
Our team started walking out the door, the blacksmith calling out to us.
"You guys should probably stay at the inn up the road, the weather is supposed to get bad tonight," he said.
I went to say something, but Ranger cut me off.
"We'll be fine. We need to keep on the move," she quickly dismissed.
Soon the town was far behind us. The snow began falling long after we had left the town, meaning we needed to find shelter for the night.
"Alright everyone, we'll set up our tents in that tree line."
We've been sleeping in simple tents and on roll-up mattresses since we left Patch. Ranger wants us to always be on the move and bypass as many 'unnecessary' stops as possible. The biggest fault I've found with this, is it's the middle of winter. I laid in my tent, shivering underneath the thick blanket I had. We tucked our tents away in the tree line but all that did was keep the snow from falling on our tents. The air itself was freezing cold, and I definitely wasn't dressed for winter weather. My leather jacket may block the wind, but it didn't do shit for the cold. I pulled the blanket tight over me, doing whatever I could to stay warm.
"H-Haly?" I heard Ruby stutter.
I looked out the pulled back curtain of my tent, and saw Ruby shivering, and her own blanket wrapped over her.
"C-can I sleep with you please?" She asked.
"Of course, you don't need to ask," I quickly answered.
Ruby quickly crawled in the tent. She snuggled up to me with her head in the crook of my neck and wrapping my arms around her. As she held on tight to me I ran my hand through her black and red hair. We were finally starting to warm up a little, and Ruby's chest rising and falling against mine was unreal.
"Haly, can I ask something?" Whispered Ruby.
I opened my eyes again, and saw Ruby rest her hand on the scar on my arm. My heart raced as I knew what question was coming.
"Everyone says it was Cinder who did this, but none of them were there. Is it really true?" She asked.
My heart was already hurting, I didn't want to lie to her but I didn't want to hurt her.
"Yes," I said.
Ruby rested her head against my shoulder again, a slight smile on my face.
"Ok, if you say that's what happened, then I trust it," she said.
This hurt even more. I was so good at lying that the girl I love was believing it all. I couldn't stop hurting myself without hurting her. But even then I wasn't going to hurt her, no matter how much it pained me.
