Ruby's POV
After our fight with that huge Grimm we kept moving, but we were nowhere near any towns now. I woke up this morning hearing Ranger in a coughing fit. I slipped away from Haly, somehow not waking him up. He was so exhausted from all the walking and fighting that Nuckelavee. Jaune was already awake and tending to Ranger when I got there. Ranger was barely breathing, covered in sweat and her hand was loose in Jaune's.
"We need to find a hospital, we need to get moving again... I can't let her..." mumbled Jaune.
As I watched Jaune silently panic for Ranger, I could hear a horses hooves and a wagon coming up the road we were stopped next to. I ran out to the road and saw a wagon coming down the road slowly.
"Hey! Hey!" I called out to them.
The older man and woman stopped their wagon next to me and jumped off.
"What's going on young lady?" Asked the man.
"We need help, a friend of ours is really hurt. She was poisoned by a scorpion and we need to get her to a hospital now," I explained.
"Oh no need for that," said the man.
...did he even hear me?!
"Honey, grab my anti-venom kit. I can treat your friend now, we're a traveling business for medicines. I should have just what she needs," explained the man. "If you could kindly lead us to her I'll set right to work."
I brought the couple to our camp and straight to Ranger. The man knelt next to her and looked at her condition.
"Oh my, that is not a pretty wound."
He opened his case and pulled out a vial with a dropper. The bandages were cut away, and he applied a few drops of the liquid to the puncture wound. Ranger tried to gasp, but no sound came from her mouth.
"Honey, her throat is drier than a bone," said the lady.
The man pour some of the liquid into a cup before helping Ranger drink it.
I could see her start to panic a little but Jaune took her hand tighter."It's ok Heather, it's going to help you," soothed Jaune.
Ranger calmed down at Jaune's voice, and allowed the man to continue his work. He soaked a bandage in the liquid before wrapping it over Ranger's wound again.
"There, she should be back on her feet within the hour and the bandage will continue to apply the anti-venom until she is completely healed from its effects," explained the man.
"Thank you for this, we don't have much but..." I started.
"Oh no need for any of that, consider it a professional courtesy," he told me.
I walked with the couple back to their wagon, helping them carry the case of vials they brought with them. When we got to the wagon they started to pack everything back up.
"We can't thank you enough for your help," I told them.
"Oh it's nothing dear, we were happy to help someone in need," said the lady. "But for your help with our cases..."
She went in the back of the wagon, emerging a moment later with something in your hand.
"This was our sons' locket from when he was a young boy. You strike me as someone he would've really liked, so I'd like you to have it," said the lady.
She offered me the silver locket and I held it in my hand gently.
"Ma'am this is lovely but..." I started.
