A Piece of the Past

Today the professors were having the individual huntsmen go against each other in the ring. First ones' aura to deplete or get knocked out of the ring loses. It's been several weeks since I last talked with Ruby, and I haven't even seen her in classes. Cardin Winchester was in the ring now, having beat a few of the lower tier students.

"Anyone else wanna give it a try?" He boasted.

Earlier that day I had seen him bullying a Faunus girl, one with bunny ears. I may be a sadistic asshole, but bullying is something I don't tolerate. I said nothing, and with only the sound of my chain clanking around and my boots hitting the ground as I walked, I stepped into the ring.

"So little emo boy wants to get beat next does he?" Boasted Cardin.

I was again silent as Cardin readied his mace.

"I'll beat you in under a minute," gloated Cardin.

Is that a challenge? Alright then, I'll play with you Cardin. The boy charged me and I dodged every swing of his mace with ease. 4, 5, 6, 7. I side stepped a forward strike and spun around sweeping Cardin's legs from underneath him. 10, 11, 12, thirte... oh fuck this. As Cardin went to stand up I flicked my chain around his ankle and snapped the chain, sending him high into the air. I aimed Old '87 at him and fired, sending blazing lead at him as he flew. His aura popped, as he crashed out of the ring. 16 seconds was all it took for me to beat, no, humiliate Cardin. As his team helped him up, they left the battle room in a huff.

"Does anyone want to see if they can beat Halcyon?" Asked Professor Oobleck.

A hand with a yellow gauntlet shot up from the class. As she entered the ring, I could see Yang's eyes visibly change from purple to bright red. I went to walk out of the ring, my only desire to fight being to humiliate Cardin, but Yang obviously had other plans. As I turned to tell Oobleck I was done, Yang landed a powerful punch across my jaw. I landed at the edge of the ring, my aura blocking the damage from the shotgun blast from her gauntlet.

"Ms. Xaio Long! Halcyon was attempting to leave the ring! I will have you..." started Oobleck.

"Shut up Oobleck!" I shouted.

I stood up and cracked my neck with my back turned to Yang. As I slowly turned around, I let my chain slide down to my hand as I flipped my shotgun around.

"If that's how you want to play it blondie," I scowled.

"I'm gonna enjoy kicking your ass," said Yang.

I swung my chain around, smashing her arm down to the ground as she tried to fire another shotgun blast. She spun around a blast from Old '87, rushing me for a direct punch. I ducked under her attack and drove my shoulder into her midsection, before grabbing her leg with my chain. I snapped the chain, sending the bimbo up into the air. I blasted her back with my shotgun, the girl landing on her feet at the edge of the arena. With a twin blast from her gauntlets, she propelled herself back at me, landing a solid punch in my chest. Shotgun blasts echoed across the room as our fisticuffs dragged on. I was on my last shot in my gun, and knew she wouldn't give me the slightest chance to reload. I knew I had to end this quickly. I flicked my chain to wrap it around her waist, and used leverage to throw her towards me. She accelerated herself with shots from her gauntlets, just as I expected. I ducked under her and snapped my chain, sending her back the other direction, straight into my fist. As she flipped through the air and landed on the ground I walked towards her. She laid there dazed, and I put my foot on her chest just enough to keep her down. I leveled my gun barrel with her face, finger over the trigger.

"I win, you're done," I sneered.

I turned my gun skyward and fired the last round, before stepping out of the ring. Class soon ended and I found myself lying face first in my bunk when I got back to the dorms.

"What the fuck was that?" Questioned Ranger.

"What was what?" I asked.

"That fight," she said.

"Just that, a fight. We fought, I won, she lost," I said, turning over.

"Bullshit. That wasn't just some fight, that girl had a vendetta to try and kick your ass," she said.

I sat up from my bed, while Ranger stood with her arms crossed in front of her.

"Look, That girl is on team RWBY, and lately I haven't seen a particular girl with a red hood in class," said Ranger, still prodding me for answers.

"I don't know why she hasn't been showing up to class. Maybe she's sick?" I lied.

Ranger shook her head, and I could tell she didn't believe that for a second. Before she could say anything though, a knock on the door caught our attention. Nathan walked over and opened the door, coming over to us after a moment to hand me a large package. I reluctantly accepted the package, looking at the senders address. The package was from my parents. I hesitantly opened the box, and pulled out something I hadn't seen since I left home.

"They sent you a guitar?" Asked Samuel.

It was the electric guitar I've had since I was 9.

"Yeah, I used to play it all the time, got really good too," I said, staring into the glossy red finish on the body of the guitar.

"Well before you go on any jam sessions you've got to go fix whatever's wrong between you and Yang, because I'm not gonna deal with it," said Ranger.

I walked out of the room(more like thrown out by Ranger), and started walking towards the RWBY dorm, twirling my shotgun shell in my hand.
