The Cursed Heart and The Hopeful Light: Ruby Rose x Male Human(RWBY)

The Vytal Festival was in full swing. The event had been great so far, and we were on the last fight between Yang, and a guy named Mercury Black from Vacuo. Ruby and I sat in the stands, watching the skirmish between the two fighters. The melee titans were evenly matched for a lot of the fight, and eventually Yang came out on top. As Mercury Black knelt before Yang, Ruby cheered to the heavens.

"Yay! Go Yang!" Shouted Ruby.

I smiled a little. But that smile faded when Yang turned around and blasted Mercury's knee with her gauntlet. Yang just disqualified herself. Ruby and I were both shocked, why would Yang just do that? We left the stands of Amity Colosseum, heading to find Yang. After searching for a little bit, we found Ruby's sister. She was wandering down the halls to leave the colosseum, and looking a little shook up.

"Yang! Are you alright? What happened down there?" Asked Ruby.

It didn't take a psychic to tell she had some distress to her.

"I saw him attack me. He lunged at me and I..." mumbled Yang.

Ruby and I looked at each other, not sure what Yang was talking about. I may not understand what she is thinking, but I did understand that something wasn't right. Yang walked away from us, leaving Ruby and I lost in what she had said. Ruby and I started walking back towards the stands, an uneasy feeling growing in my gut.

"Haly? Does anything seem off to you?" Asked Ruby.

"A little bit, there's something in the air that just doesn't sit right," I answered.

Ruby leaned on my shoulder a little as we walked, and I couldn't help but smile. I looked up the hall, seeing something that wasn't right at all.

"What?" I mumbled.

Mercury Black was walking in our direction, taken off guard by us being here.

"Oh crap," I heard him mumble.

"Mercury? I thought that you were injured?" Asked Ruby.

Mercury instantly got into a fighting stance.

"Guess the party's over," said Mercury.

The grey laden boy charged us. I held Ruby behind me as I backpedaled away from his swinging kicks. I wrapped my chain over my arm, blocking one of the kicks. The action of a gun filled my ears, and I quickly pushed his foot away as a gun in his heel fired. Mercury began attacking much more rapidly, firing blast after blast from his heel guns. After nearing the wall of the building, I managed to get my chain wrapped around his ankle. He was very surprised when I then swung him through the wall and into the arena floor. My foe skidded to a stop in the arena, obviously angry. I loaded a shell into Old '87, stepping through the wall myself, and saw a horrible sight. Pyrrha was standing on the raised platform with Penny Polendina(a huntress from Atlas), and she was absolutely terrified. As Penny readied an array of her swords, Pyrrha used her magnetic semblance on full blast, something that was utter overkill. The key part of that word, was kill. An invisible force ripped Penny apart with her swords flying in all directions. There was no blood, no guts, only sparks and wires. The audience watching the match were horrified nonetheless, and an angry uproar filled the stands. Everything was going sour very fast. The giant screen used to monitor aura levels suddenly shifted to a view of a woman, a woman I recognized quite well. Ruby came in behind me and was horrified by everything happening. We looked up at the giant screen, staring at the same woman that Ruby and I fought at the Beacon Dance. My attention was grabbed by Mercury again as he rushed after me. My chain was much faster than he could ever be, wrapping around his leg. I whipped my chain, and heard the sound of metal snapping. Mercury's metal shin went flying through the air, an angry yell filling the air as he crashed to the ground. I walked up to Mercury and stomped his other leg, keeping him in place on the ground.

"Nice try, but your fun ends here," I declared.

I leveled my shotgun with his head, ready to finish the fight. I was thrown off my feet by gunshots, my aura blocking any serious injuries. A dark skinned girl with bright green hair kicked me back inside the hallway as I tried to stand up, and Ruby was thrown aside soon after. The girl picked up Mercury and ran away from the arena, leaving the arena to be slowly filled with huntresses and huntsmen.

"Haly, are you alright?!" Exclaimed Ruby.

She helped me back up to my feet, making sure I was ok. We walked out into the arena again, my head hurting from that girl's attack.

"I'm fine," I said.

I heard a large crashing sound, and looked up to see something I knew was coming. I looked up, and was horrified as a flock of Nevermore Grimm crashed through the barrier. I was paralyzed. I was paralyzed with fear, as I watched lots of Grimm began attacking the arena. Ruby acted quickly to call her weapons locker to the arena, but I couldn't do anything. My heart pounded and I felt something hard in my grip as the Grimm attacked Amity. My semblance finally did it, it finally brought my fears to life and I stood here paralyzed.

"Halcyon! Where are you?! The Grimm are all over Vale!" I heard Ranger yell through my radio.

My breathing was heavily unsteady. I couldn't focus, I couldn't move.

"...ly... Haly... Halcyon!" Exclaimed Ruby.

Ruby shook me to snap me out of my trance. I could see the fear in her eyes, as she tried to calm me down.

"R-Ruby, I... I...," I stuttered.

She pulled me into a hug, resting her head in my shoulder.

"Haly, this isn't you. This isn't your semblance, ok?" Ruby told me.

She stepped back and took hold of my hand. She held it up to me, and I saw I was holding my shell.

"Please, don't do anything drastic. This is not your fault," she declared.

I stared at the shell, repeating what Ruby said in my mind. I took hold of her hand, locking eyes with her.

"I'm ok. I'm not gonna give up now. I promised you, remember?" I assured her.

Ruby smiled, turning her weapon into scythe mode.

"Then let's help everyone," declared Ruby.

I shakily nodded and raised my shotgun. Her words echoed in my mind, it's not my fault, it's not my fault, its not my fault...
