Frozen in fear, you stare at Hiccup, he clears his throat "sorry...I uh just needed." He pauses, realising how shocked you were. Without saying a word, you dash past him out of the door and down the steps, he calls for you but you don't stop running.
You run deep into the forest with Hiccup hot on your tail "(y/n), wait!" He calls, you fight back the tears as your legs refuse to stop, suddenly you feel a tight grasp on your wrist, halting you in your tracks.
His shaking hand held onto your wrist tightly, you didn't dare look at him.
"You're fast." He huffs "how much did you hear?" You ask quietly.
"I uh..."
"How much?" You shout, spinning round "all I heard was you saying you were afraid." He explains "and I heard the cry so I came in to check, seeing you so upset, it.."
You take a deep breath, cutting him off "sorry, I just don't like people seeing me cry, usually the reasons are pretty stupid." You mumble, he steps closer, still holding your wrist "please don't apologise, you didn't do anything wrong." You feel his fingers shaking slightly. You both look down at his hand, you slide your arm from his grip, tucking it behind your back.
He observes you, how you refuse to look him in the eyes, your awkward posture as the two of you stood facing each other.

"(Y/n)" you don't look up "please look at me." His voice was calm and somewhat soothing, you finally do "you can always talk to me, I care about you." He says.
"I want too, but it's complicated." You reply quietly, he tilts his head "ok, maybe you're not ready, but when you are...I'll be here." Warmth radiates your cheek as he slowly rests his hand there, looking at you intently, trying to figure out what was going on in your mind.
"You're such a good man, Hiccup...I don't know why you are even bothering with me."
"Hey, don't think like that. I know a good person when I meet one."
"How can you be so sure?"
"I just know...kind of like a sixth sense."
You swallow a thick lump in your throat "I don't judge anyone, are you afraid of that?" He asks. "More like, you'll banish me or something."
Hiccup lets out a small laugh "oh please, unless you betray me or a Berkian or something serious like that, I wouldn't."
"Well you can rest assure I haven't done that."
"Good, good...say, why don't we go back and maybe you can teach me some of your fighting moves?" He asks, smile on his face "alright, but be prepared for a lot of butt whooping."
"Noted."

Butt whooping indeed, you'd knocked him onto his behind at least 10 times in the space of 20 minutes. But within a few hours he was really improving, blocking almost every move you threw.
"Not bad." You huff as the two of you lock swords, pushing against each other "not so bad...yourself!" He pushes harder, flinging you backwards falling onto your back, he climbs on top, straddling you, knocking your sword from your hand, he grabs both your arms, pinning them above your head, smirking proudly, his hot breath hitting your face as he took a moment to catch his breath "the student has become the master." You smirk, he raises an eyebrow releasing your arms and sitting up taking a deep breath.

"I can feel the looovveee!" A voice echoes the arena, Hiccup jumps up following the voice to see the twins watching through the bars, both smiling like idiots "we are practise fighting, Ruff!" Hiccup calls, she shakes her head "don't look like that to me!"
"Yeah, who straddles an opponent and sits like that staring at them for that long!" Tuff adds, wiggling his eyebrows "so they don't escape." Hiccup says with an eye roll "totally...not!" Ruffnut laughs "get out of here!" Hiccup snarls, the twins snicker and walk away.
"What time is it any way?" You ask, Hiccup holds his hand helping you stand up "I'm not actually sure. Sun is setting though, didn't realise." He chuckles, you dust off your clothes and grab your water bottle, taking a long swig "good session though." You say, wiping your mouth, Hiccups mouth raises up into a smile "what?"
He steps closer, brushing his thumb over a dribble of water hanging off your chin "messy one, you are."
You punch his arm lightly "rude!" He rubs his arm laughing, you roll your eyes biting back a smile.
Hiccup insisted on walking you home, continuously hitting you with questions about Spear. And you thought Fishlegs was obsessed with Dragons.
"Well, here we are." You say, stepping to your door and turning around to face him "well, I shall see you tomorrow most likely." He says, you nod "can't get rid of you can I?" You stick your tongue out, he shakes his head and smiles "a friend of mine is never left alone!"
Despite hearing it a few times now, your stomach still fluttered at the word "friend." Something you had never had before, being able to feel comfortable around someone who wasn't your parents or Gothi was a good feeling, someone your age, similar interests. Sure you considered Spear your best friend but a dragon was different to another human in a way "Well." You clear your throat "goodnight Hiccup." You turn and open your door, steeping inside "goodnight (y/n). Sleep well." He replies, you close the door and exhale a long breath. Spear approaches and nuzzles against you "hey Bud." You whisper, he purrs loudly "I think things are finally looking up."
