"Have you got everything?" Hiccup asks "almost, I don't know where Spear is." You reply, He takes your bag "he won't be too far away."
"I hope so." You sigh "storms are never good for him. Hates them."
You walk ahead, your mothers letter falling from your pocket, Hiccup picks it up "you dropped this." He says, holding it out, you turn around staring at it for a moment "here." He moves his hand closer, gesturing for you to take it "it can go in my bag." You say, turning back around. He tilts his head to the side "did you read it?"
You stop in your tracks "is everyone going to ask me that today?" Annoyance stinging in your tone.
"I just figured you would have by now." Hiccup mumbles, you turn to him again "and why's that?"
"I uh...I mean it's from your mother, y'know...something she left for you, I just thought." He pauses, from the look on your face he could tell you were getting more annoyed by the second. "I've said so many times. I'll read the stupid letter when I'm ready!" You snarl "it's not stupid! Can't you see that? It's your mothers final words to you! At least you have something like that!" Hiccup snaps suddenly.
"I wish I had some sort of writing from my father, all I got was him taken from me right in front of my eyes! It happened so quickly and I....I know it wouldn't have happened if I hadn't been so stubborn and determined to find Drago! Because of my selfish actions, he was killed and I hate myself for it."
You watch his eyes brim with tears "you have this letter, something so special and you're calling it stupid..."
"And it's my business. No one else's." You say coldly "I'm not arguing with you about this."
"I just want to help you and be happy! Why are you being so damn difficult about it? You're not the only person who's lost a parent!" As soon as those words leave his lips his body tenses as the realisation of what he just said hits him.
You stare at him with fire eyes, your blood boiling with anger "difficult?"
"no! I didn't mean that!"
"Well you said it."
"No, no no! I swear I just wasn't thinking about what I was saying."
"Sub conscious thoughts got the better of you, eh?" You sneer. He doesn't reply and you roll your eyes.
"I know I'm not the only one, do you really think I'm that entitled and selfish?" You take a deep breath "you know what? Fuck you, Hiccup. I'm done with this conversation."
"(Y/n) I'm sorry, I didn't mean it!" He begs reaching for your arm but you jerk it away.
"I don't want to hear it. I'm going to find my dragon. See you at the hall. Maybe." You slam the door behind you and run downstairs out into the rain.
Hiccup runs out after you but you were already out of sight. The rain was now hammering down making it hard to see anything. The faint lights of the great hall was the only thing he could see and he runs towards them, just hoping you went straight there.
"There you are!" Gobber scolds, pulling the young chief through the doors and closing them behind him "is (y/n) in here?" Hiccup asks, Gobber shakes his head "Spear is though." Hiccup starts to feel panic "she's still outside! I need to find her." He pushes past but Gobber grabs him by his collar, lifting him up "I don't think so. It's dangerous out there." Hiccup dangles in the air looking at Gobber with dis belief. "did you not hear me? Put me down, now!"
"What did you do?"
"That's not the point here. The point is she's out in this horrible weather."
"I'll put ya down if you calm down." Gobber says sternly, Valka approaches "Hiccup, calm down."
Hiccup groans in annoyance and finally stops squirming then Gobber finally puts him back down "there we go. Wasn't hard was it?"
Hiccup rolls his eyes as he re adjusts his shirt "why did she run off?" Valka asks, Hiccup doesn't respond, she shakes her head "clearly you two have had some sort of disagreement. She just needs some time to cool off."
"Oh my Thor! are you all deaf?" Hiccup yells "cool off? She's out in that storm for Odin's sake she's going to cool off alright, probably freeze!"
Gobber picks up a lantern "I'll go outside and look for her, you on the other hand." He points at Hiccup "you, stay...here."
"Alright, fine."
"Good boy." Gobber leans towards Valka "better keep an eye on him. You know what he's like."
"I can hear you." Hiccup sneers, Gobber shrugs "true though."
Gobber squints his eyes as he looks around, he really couldn't see anything, the lantern in his hand was pretty useless. He scoffs at it and puts it down before heading down the steps.
"Alright, where are you?" He whispers to himself. At that moment, he knew Hiccup would be better at finding you. He knew you better than anyone else and where your hiding spots where. He really should have asked him where he think you would have gone.
He decided against going back to ask Hiccup as he would sneak out to find you himself and this weather was pretty violent, it would probably sweep him away.
Gobber pushes against the wind and calls your name, hoping you would respond. But nothing. He notices a collapsed hut in the distance and runs over to it.
A long loud yawn flies from Hiccup's mouth, Astrid lowers the book she was reading, one eyebrow raised "gee, get some sleep." She says, Hiccup shakes his head while rubbing his eyes "I'm good."
"Yeah, sure you are."
She lifts her book and continues reading, Hiccup looks to the door again "she's right, Hiccup." Fishlegs adds. The gang were sat in a circle trying to keep themselves occupied, Fishlegs sat beside Hiccup "when Gobber returns he'll notify you."
Hiccup sighs softly, his head dropping slightly, Fishlegs reaches over patting his back "a lot of people are already starting to settle down for the night, you should too."
Hiccup leans back against Toothless who was already asleep, Spear laying next to him. "Berk is my village. I'm supposed to protect everyone. But..." he pauses, starring up at the ceiling "don't beat yourself up about it. She's probably fine. You know she likes to be alone sometimes. She's a tough cookie." Fishlegs says, trying to be reassuring.
Hiccup shuffles down and lays on his side, looking up at Fishlegs "everyone probably thinks I'm being over concerned just because she's my girlfriend and yeah, that it part of it but she's also a part of Berk and"
"I know." Fishlegs cuts him off "you don't need to explain your worry. We understand. You're a good chief."
Hiccup smiles up at him "oh, yeah." Fishlegs begins "me and Meatlug were flying around the other day and we found this amazing thing! First glance it looked like a hole in a ground but upon closer inspection it was like an underground cove with a fully functioning eco system, so fascinating. I collected some of the plants, and it had moss!"
He pauses as his eyes fall onto the chief who was now asleep "bored him to sleep?" Astrid chuckles "if you can't sleep, just send Fishface over to waffle on about his usual utter nonsense!" Snotlout laughs, Astrid throws a pencil at him, it smacks him right between his eyebrows "shhh!"
Not long later, a knock at the great hall doors catches Astrid's attention, she watches Valka walk to the doors as two men open it. Gobber shuffles in, making sure he was facing away, he whispers something and a third man quickly approaches with a fur blanket.
He was carrying something, Valka looking very worried as they hurried to the back room.
Astrid hmms to herself and looks down at Hiccup debating if she should wake him or not. She decides not too and quickly gets up, running over to the back room.
She pushes past the men guarding the door opening it to see you sat on the bed, knees tucked up to your chest, groaning and shivering "what on Berk happened?" She asks "I don't know! I found her near a collapsed hut, it was a fuss trying to her her to come with me." Gobber explains, trying to tend to the cut on your head, yelping when you swing your arm around, punching him in the gut.
Astrid approaches and kneels so she was eye level with you "(y/n)?" She asks, you peek through your hair, your eyes full of fear "we're going to help you, please let us."
"No..." you whisper "mum...dad. I want them." Astrid turns to Gobber and Valka who looked equally as confused.
Your father runs in engulfing you into a hug "what happened?" He asks "I...don't know." You reply "why are people fussing me? I've hardly ever spoken them! Where's mum?"
Your dad freezes "darling...your mum."
"Is she at home?"
"No."
"Where is she? And where's Spear?"
Everyone was speechless, your dad turns to Valka "I'll clean her up and talk to her."
Gobber, Valka and Astrid wait outside the door anxiously. Your father eventually walks out, closing the door behind him. "She's sleeping. He says quietly "she's...something different."
"How so?" Valka asks, your dad lets out a long sigh "it's apparent she's hit her head pretty hard. But she doesn't remember what happened....and...another thing." He looks up at the three concerned faces.
"she appears to not remember anything from the last year."
