Chloe glanced at Duncan as they reached the hallway, her eyes widening when she suddenly remembered that her laptop was still in the living room.
"What's wrong?" he asked, instantly noticing the change in her body language.
"I've left my laptop in the living room." she said quietly, glancing nervously in the direction of the living room, her stomach churning when she heard Lee and Steph's voices travelling along the hallway.
"I'll go and get it for you." he said quickly, instantly realising that she didn't want to have to face the two people who had broken her heart. She shot him a small smile, before perching on her suitcase and silently picking her fingernails, still not quite able to process what had happened.
Duncan hurried into the room, throwing the door open with so much force that it clattered against the wall.
"What's gotten into you?" Steph frowned, glancing between him and Lee. Duncan remained silent, quickly swiping the laptop off the coffee table.
"Is this Chloe's laptop?" he checked, not quite able to bring himself to make eye contact with Lee.
"What's going on?" Lee asked nervously, instantly sensing that Duncan was furious about something.
"I asked you a question." Duncan replied shortly.
"Yeah it's Chloe's." Lee replied, still not quite able to shake the feeling that something was wrong.
"Why does she need it at this hour, I thought she was sleeping?" he continued.
"Don't even speak to me." Duncan snapped, tucking the laptop under his arm and hurrying out of the room. He sighed to himself as he walked back into the hallway and noticed Chloe quickly wiping the tears from her cheeks, clearly hoping that he wouldn't notice. She carefully stood up, watching Duncan closely as he unzipped her suitcase and placed the laptop inside.
Lee frowned to himself, his stomach churning nervously as Duncan walked away from him. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't shake the feeling that something was going on that he wasn't being told about. He glanced at Steph when he felt her watching him closely, sighing as she shrugged in response, clearly just as confused by the whole situation as he was. Before he could talk himself out of it, he stood up and followed Duncan into the hallway, his heart plummeting when he noticed Chloe standing in silence, her gaze fixed on the floor, as Duncan quickly zipped up her suitcase.
"Are you going somewhere?!" he blurted, slightly afraid of her answer. She nodded slowly, not quite able to bring herself to look at him.
"Where are you going?" he asked, his heart pounding against his chest.
"Anywhere that isn't here." she said shortly, her gaze still fixed on the ground as she tried to hold back the tears that were filling her eyes. As soon as she'd heard his voice, it felt like someone had ripped her heart out of her chest, almost as if he had her heart in his hand and was slowly crushed it in his fist.
"Why?" he asked quickly, frowning to himself when Chloe scoffed in response, slowly shaking her head.
"Chlo?" he tried, taking a step towards her.
"Don't!" she exclaimed, quickly holding up her finger, her temper fraying.
"You've lost your right to call me that!" she continued angrily.
"What is it that I've meant to have done now?" he sighed.
"I think you know exactly what you have done." Duncan piped up.
"Enlighten me." Lee snapped.
"Surely you're not that drunk that you don't remember sticking your tongue down someone else's throat?" Chloe said bitterly. Lee swallowed the lump that was rising in his throat, finally falling silent as Chloe finally locked eyes with him, raising her eyebrow at him, almost like she was challenging him to deny it.
