"I'm not going." Elmira's voice rang through her home as she slammed the door shut in her parent's faces. The anger bubbled up inside of her as the ground beneath her feet began to cool. She paced her room erratically as she murmured curse words underneath her breath. Her parents eager knocking on her bedroom door only angered her more as her powers brewed.

"El come on - be reasonable. Every fairy goes to Alfea at 16 it's a rite of passage." Ariella - her mother - tried to coax Elmira out of her unstable state but deep down she knew there was no calming her only daughter. "Come on babe let's just wait in the kitchen." Ariella's gaze met that of her new wife's before sighing and taking her hand as they walked away from the door in defeat.

Elmira's hands continued shaking as she tried to focus on her happy memories - drinking with her best friend Beatrix, flirting with the mortals who knew they didn't stand a chance with her, freezing the lake in the middle of Summer so the fire fairies would have to come and fix it. Nothing seemed powerful enough to calm the burning sensation inside of her that continued to grow. As she sat on the edge of her bed her mind began to wonder; she thought about the death of her father ten years ago, she thought about how she felt when her mother remarried, she thought about her now ex-girlfriend and the times they shared together. Every negative emotion poured into her bubbling powers and before she could tame them they took over her entire body.

The ice was so cold it felt like it was burning as the ground below Elmira began to freeze over, her room rapidly filled with icicles before spreading throughout the entire house like wild fire. Elmira's screams ran through the halls as she realised she couldn't contain her powers - her mind now shouting at her to run.

Ariella and Freya's eyes met as the sound of their daughter's screams rang through their ears, they quickly focused on the ice that spread across every surface of their once elegantly designed home. Grabbing each other's hands they prepared to escape, neither one of them able to stop the oncoming stream of ice - Ariella being a light fairy and Freya: a specialist. Elmira came running down the hallway having found her mothers in the nearest kitchen, she grabbed ahold of Freya's arm without a second thought and dragged them both out the front door to safety, not noticing the burn appearing on Freya's skin due to the direct contact between them. Once the three of them were outside - and safe - Ariella glanced down at her wife's arm noticing the dark crimson burn rising on her skin before she looked at her daughter in fear.

Elmira's eyes filled with tears as she witnessed the scene unfolding before her - her home was completely covered in ice due to the intensity of her powers and she'd unintentionally hurt her new stepmother in an attempt to save her. Her mind raced but one thought was clearer than the rest of them: she was out of control.
