Chapter 14: Losing is the hardest

Maya's POV:

It has now been two months since Maya and Carina had gotten together, and the blonde was enjoying every second of it.

She had now been allowed back at work and was feeling a lot better than she did the last previous weeks.

"So Bishop when do we meet this girl of yours?" Warren asked.

"Uhhh well she's actually coming to the station today, so I guess then?" She told him.

She was nervous yet excited for her friends to meet Carina.

quite exited for her friends to meet the thing in her life that's made her happier than she's ever been in a long time.

"I haven't spoken to her much but she sounds nice" Andy added, as she grabbed a bowel and a box of lucky charms before sitting at the kitchen counter next to Ben.

joining the conversation as she ate her cereal.

"She's lovely, and she's an OB at grey Sloan" she told her friends, as they all sat around the kitchen counter listening to Maya talk about the brunette.

It was now 6:00pm at the station and Carina phoned the blonde to inform her that she would be picking Jamie up from daycare before she made her way to the station: the daycare was in the hospital so it only made sense.

The blonde loved the relationship the two had built over the past two months, and was thankful that when Maya couldn't pick him up that she or one of her friends were always there to help.

Carina's POV:

It was a hard day for the brunette so far, she had just lost a mother and her child, she was 19, and unfortunately everything Carina tried had failed; there was nothing her or anyone could have done.

The one thing she hated about her job was that as much as she loved to bring life into the world, came death.

She hated it when she was the one that had to inform the family that neither their daughter or the baby made it.

After she had the very hard conversation with this girls family she made her way to a supply closet, before opening the door and quickly shutting it and sliding her back against the door.

After she had finished with her shift she made her way to Jamie's daycare: which conveniently was also in the hospital.

She was hoping she could just go home and snuggle with her girlfriend, whilst she soothed her telling her everything was ok, and that she did all she could, even though she knew this to be true without being told it, she was struggling to hold it together and would need her girlfriend to comfort her.

She made her way to the station, she had told the blonde that she would stop by for a little while, which had excited the blonde.

She was currently standing outside the station making her way towards the entrance.

She took a deep breath collecting her nerves before she made her way into the station.

Both POV:

When she Carina enter the station her head fluttered with love for the brunette.

"hi my love" she wrapped her arms around her girlfriend, not knowing about the loss at work.

Carina held onto the blonde, finding comfort in her girlfriends arms, she couldn't help but cry after a moments of silence and holding eachother.

She didn't want to cry, but she knew that she needed to offload the pains of the day.

"Woah what's wrong sweetheart" Maya asked, as she felt her girlfriends body break and tears start to cover Maya's Station19 T-shirt.

"I-I..." she sobbed, she wanted it all to go away, hoping that her girlfriend could help her with that, she knew she could.

"Ok go into that room and I'll be as quick as I can, I'll take Jamie to the beanery so we can have some time alone" she explained, watching as her girlfriend did as Instructed, before the blonde made her way to the beanery with Jamie.

She told the brunette wheeling the little boy into the beanery where everyone looked up from what they were doing and stared at Maya questionably, "where's your girlfriend Bishop" Warren asked, smirking at the blonde, "not now" she told him passing Jamie to Jack knowing he was most comfortable with the man. "Where you off too" Gibson asked taking Jamie from her hands placing him on his lap. "Carina just came in sobbing her little heart out so I need to go check if she's alright, I won't be too long" she finished, turning towards where her girlfriend was waiting for her. When she heard the blonde enter the room, she was curled up in a ball on one of the beds, sniffing trying to get the tears to stop. "Shhh come here baby" she heard the blonde tell her as she got on the bed as well and pulled the brunette over into her arms. She rested her head on the younger woman's chest listening to her heart beat whilst Maya stroked her hair massaging her scalp soothingly. "Ok want to explain to me what got you so upset?" She asked confused as to what had caused the Italian to have the outburst she did when she first arrived. "I lost a Mama and baby today" she said sadly nuzzling her head into Maya's neck, "oh my poor baby" the blonde told her stroking her other hand up and down the brunettes soft skin. "There was nothing I or anyone could do, but it still broke my heart when I had to tell the family that neither their daughter or grandchild would be leaving the hospital" she explained starting to tear up again as she remembered the event. "Shhhh it's ok I've got you, I'm sure you did everything you could bubba, sometimes things just happen and we have no explanation or reason for them happening." The blonde told her kissing her cheek, "Sì i know" she sighed lifting her head up from the blondes neck. "Maya... I" she started feeling so much for her girlfriend right now. "What is it baby?" The blonde asked continuing to stroke the length of the brunettes back. "I think we should go see your friends now" she said not being able to get the 3 words she wanted to say but just couldn't. "Yes let's go, are you sure your ready?" She asked not wanting to push her girlfriend. "Sì let's go Bella" she told her before giving Maya one soft kiss on the lips before making her way to her feet hand in hand with the blonde. About half an hour later and everyone was sat in the beanery chatting, laughing, Maya was happy about how her friends welcomed Carina and could tell that they all really liked her, I mean who wouldn't? It was now time to go, Maya and Carina said goodbye to the group of firefighters, also letting little Jamie say goodbye as well. "Ok let's get you both home" she said sighing as they made their way out of the station, "my place tonight?" Maya asked not wanting Carina to be uncomfortable on such a tuff day. "Sì Bella" she replied grabbing the blondes hand and making their way home.
