Author's note!
Pls take note that this story is in ascending timeline, which means it's gonna start from Coleen's younger years to the present. I'm saying this just to avoid confusion. That's all, I'm back, happy reading everyone! :)Chapter 1
naglalagablab
I stared at the word.
"Nag-la-la-gab-lab."
I nodded. I tried to say it like how she said it.
"Nag.."
Isabella nodded encouragingly.
"Nag..lala..gablab.."
She smiled, "Say it once more Coleen."
"Naglalagablab."
She smiled in satisfaction.
I sighed. I leaned on my chair and looked at her, "Is that a tongue twister?" I asked.
She chuckled, "No, this is a Filipino word."
"That long? What does it mean?"
"It means burning.."
Burning..
Sometimes, Filipino words really amuse me. The pronunciation and that antique feeling when you talk in their language, like they mean so deep, like they hurl beneath your tongue for their meaning, it amuses me.
I stared at the word before Isabella finally erased it.
"Do you think I can live in the Philippines now that I already know how to speak Filipino?"
She smiled at me, "Gustong-gusto mo na talagang umuwi sa Pilipinas?"
"Ofcourse! I'm a Filipino, I want to live there.."
Well, we visit Philippines at times but we don't really stay there for long. Mom is half Filipino but she's been here in Canada since I was born and I don't think she has plans to live in the Philippines. We only go there to visit some relatives and the Altamiranos, and that rarely happens because the Altamiranos prefer to come over here during vacation.
"Sigurado ka ba sa dahilan mo?" Isabella smiled teasingly and I giggled a bit, remembering that what I said is not exactly my reason.
"Well ofcourse.." Ofcourse it's because I like what Tita Glacier promised me on my 10th birthday.
I am very vocal about my interest to go to the Philippines and try to live there, first of all because the Altamiranos are there. When I celebrated my 10th birthday and I mentioned it again to my mom, Tita Glacier said she can take care of me while I'm away from my family. And that means living with her family, the Altamiranos, and living with Kuya Ice ofcourse!
Mom is not saying anything about it though. She would just tell me that I'm not yet ready for it.
Well she was right, when I was ten, I still don't know anything about the Philippines, I don't even speak Filipino. That is the main reason why I asked her to let me learn about the language. Thankfully, she agreed to it. And now that I'm twelve, I don't think I'm still not ready.
"Maganda naman na ang diction mo. Siguro dapat magbasa ka pa ng Filipino-English dictionary para mas maintindihan mo ang ibig sabihin ng mga salita."
