He looked up at me with a stone cold expression, his sunglasses resting on his hair. He has really nice eyes, it's nice to see them again. They're brown around his pupil but towards his iris they're more a greeny kinda brown. I sat down opposite him and he lowered his gaze back down to his phone.

"Why were you ignoring me in English?" I asked, slightly annoyed that he has barely acknowledged my existence since his arrival.

"I have no idea what you're talking about." He said, trying to keep a straight face but I saw the smirk that threatened to spread across his face.

"Don't play dumb Nick." I said to him. He looked up at me, and his eyes trailed over every inch of me. I shifted uncomfortably, Ellie's insult fresh in my brain and most likely not leaving anytime soon. 'How much you wanna bet he's not gonna talk to you when he sees how much weight you've put on in the year he's been gone.'

"You ever thought that maybe I ignored you simply because I want to be left alone?" He said, his eyes not daring to show any sort of emotion. What the fuck was this shit? Nick used to be so carefree and never shut up and now he wants to be alone? His mom's death must've really changed him. However it's gonna take a lot more than that to get me to stop trying to talk with him.

"Did you move back into your old house or are you somewhere new?" I asked, in a sad attempt to make conversation with him. I was greeted with yet again, no response.

"So how have you been?" I asked. I had so, so, so many questions but I didn't want to cross any lines or make him uncomfortable, especially when he's not even talking to me yet.

"Have you unpacked yet? If you want I can come around after school and-"

"- do you ever fucking shut up." he said cutting me off. You could hear his annoyance in his voice. Great, I've pissed him off.

"Has anyone ever told you how annoying you are?" He continued, half groaning

"Only everyday." I said in a joking tone, little did he know I wasn't kidding. The bell rang indicating lunch was in fact over. I look at his empty french fry packet and burger wrapper that he must've gotten delivered considering they don't serve McDonald's here. I don't get how people can eat that shit. It's so unhealthy and has so many calories and he just ate it like it was a salad. He got up and started walking towards me. He was sadly much taller than me. I was standing at 5'2 where as Nick is at least 6 foot. He got extremely close to me and bent down so he could be directly next to my ear.

"I'm gonna say it one more time since you can't seem to understand it. I want to be left alone." He whispered and I could feel his breath on my neck. And with that he walked away, leaving me there in the middle of the cafeteria not only flustered by his sudden proximity, but also absolutely not convinced by what he had just said. He didn't want to be left alone, Nobody wants to be alone. So I walked to my locker, tryna figure out a plan on how to get my best friend back.
