The rest of the walk back to my house was quiet, but it wasn't awkward. It was a comfortable silence, with us walking side by side along the footpath. We turned into my street and it was eerily quiet, I guess that's just how it gets in the middle of the night though. It's peaceful, comforting in a way. The same kind of comfort you get when you look up at the stars at 3am, with the early morning breeze lightly brushing your skin. Nick walked me all the way up to my front door step, god he really does act like a mum hey. I turned around to face him.
"Thank you. For y'know, walking me home and taking care of me." I told him sincerely.
He shrugged whilst saying "It's what friends are for."
"Best friends." I corrected him.
"Don't get your hopes up." He said whilst chuckling and looking to the side, but we both knew he was kidding.
"You make sure you don't get kidnapped by the big bad wolf on your way home yeah?" I joked to him, but I wasn't kidding. He just started laughing.
"You're funny if you think I'm gonna let you stay here alone after what just happened." He told me. Well fuck.
"I'm not alone though," I rushed out. "My mum's home, it's fine Nick, really." I tried to convince him. He gave me that look, one that said there was no way he was taking no as an answer. That's the thing with him, he's just as stubborn as I am. I huffed out a breath of air.
"My window." I said to him whilst walking around to the side of my house, where my room is. He followed behind me, not saying a word even though I'm sure he had lots of things to say.
"Just let me check my mum's not in there first." I told him. He nodded and leaned up against the wall of my house, bending one of his legs to press against the wall. I gazed up at my window, it seemed to be exactly how I left it which is a good sign. I take a deep breath, bracing myself for the worst before I grabbed onto the sides of the ladder and started climbing. I kept my head down when I reached the top, just enough for only my eyes to be seen by anyone who might've been in there. I peer around cautiously before climbing through the window. No one's here. I quickly check my wardrobe and bathroom to be sure, before going back to my window and peeking my head out. I look down at Nick, who's already looking back at me. I give him a thumbs up and a nod before he returns it. I stick my head back in my room and quickly sweep my eyes across my room before noticing my pile of granola bars and an apple. I always took them with me upstairs so my mum wouldn't be suspicious but obviously never actually ate them. I jogged over to my dresser and opened my top drawer before quickly shoving them in there. I turn around to be met with Nick's hair just barely being in view, and as he climbs the next step up he locks eyes with me.
"Welcome to my humble abode, good sir." I joke to him quietly whilst doing a dramatic curtsey. He just chuckled and rolled his eyes.
"Why, thank you m'lady. You're ever so kind." He said whilst stepping into my room.
"Ignore the mess obviously." I said gesturing to my clean laundry I have yet to put away and the school books that are scattered off in a corner of my room.
"You know I don't mind Jules. Never had, never will." He said. I looked over at my clock, the numbers 11:11 blinking in my face. That's an angel number isn't it? Wonder what it means. (deadass I keep seeing 11:11 and 1:11 everywhere and have no clue wth it means lmao) He walked over to my door and started turning the handle.
"Where ya going?" I asked him.
"I'm starving, I'm getting us snacks. What do you want?" He asked me, turning around to face me. I gulped, thinking about how his definition of a snack was equal to more than double my total calories.
