The bell rang, indicating that it was now time for lunch. I beelined for my locker, taking out the container of brownies before heading to the cafeteria. It didn't take long to spot Nick, he stands out like a sore thumb. I took a deep breath before walking up to his table and sitting right in front of him.

"Hi." I said, determined to make Nick not hate me. He was yet again eating McDonald's. He just glanced up at me before putting his attention back to his food and his phone.

"Here." I slid the container over to him, watching as his eyes showed a flick of curiosity. "I made them for you, take 'em as a welcome back gift."

"You really are persistent." He chuckled, opening the container. He didn't hesitate to take a bite, and he clearly looked satisfied with what he was eating. "They're still as amazing as ever Jules, who knew not having them for ages would make them taste 10 times better." He said, going to grab his third brownie. I just laughed in response, watching in amusement as he looked like a kid in a candy store.

"You're not gonna have one?" He asked looking up at me for the first time since I handed him the brownies. I wanted to throw a tantrum, it had been going so well. He was actually talking to me, and he just had to bring up food.

"No thanks, I'm not hungry." I gave him a polite smile, before an unreadable emotion flashed across his face. It was kind of like a mix of confusion and some other unreadable emotion.

"More for me then." He stated before continuing to eat the brownies I made, but a little slower now. I don't get how people could simply just eat, like without even thinking about the calories and the sugar and how much weight you're gonna put on and how much exercise you're gonna have to do to burn it off. And some people don't even grow when they eat they just stay skinny, they're ridiculously lucky

"So are we good?" I asked, trying not to get my hopes up. His smile dropped, like he had just watched someone murder a puppy.

"No Jules, you're not getting it. I simply just want to be alone." His face went back to his usual no emotion type of face. His tone was cold, harsh even.

"I don't believe that for a second Nick." I said honestly. I didn't believe him, I knew his habits when he lied. He'd play with his fingers and bounce his leg. Both of which he was doing, quite subtly but I definitely noticed it.

"Meet me after school at the front gates." I told him, before grabbing the nearly empty container and walking to my locker. You may be wondering, what's my plan? Well I actually don't know. I'm thinking that maybe if we talk somewhere private; such as my house, then maybe he wouldn't be so closed off about everything.
