After Nick walked out of the room I went back to washing dishes. Yes I was curious about why he was having such a mysterious phone call but I'm not one to eavesdrop, it's rude and an invasion of privacy so I try to avoid it, however when you have someone like Nick on a phone call apparently he doesn't know anything about how to be quiet.
"No! Because I already fucking told you I was gonna be out!" I hear him shout from two doors down. There's more very loud talking and inaudible yelling before Nick returns once again.
"I gotta go, sorry." He spoke fast, sounding like he was in a hurry and looking quite stressed. "Tell your Mom I said thanks for having me over." He said before making his way to my front door and letting himself out. So there I was, all alone in the middle of my kitchen, feeling like a puppy who just got abandoned by their owner. I finished cleaning the dishes and headed upstairs. I spent a good hour on my math homework before getting changed to go on my run.
"Hey mom, I have a test tomorrow so I'm spending the rest of the night studying. If you need me send me a text, otherwise goodnight!" I yelled out as I grabbed my airpods and my phone before climbing out of my window and down the ladder that 'coincidentally' leaned up against my window. I looked at the time on my phone, 7:17. I shuffle played my Spotify playlist and started the hour long run I go on every night. I started going over everything I had today, which was only half an apple and some veggies and chicken. Quickly doing the math in my head, if I had a little over 200 calories, then I should run for around 45 minutes, just to push myself. I reach the bridge that links my town to my neighbouring town and run into someone, literally. I land on my (phat) ass, with a huff of frustration. I pause my music, and look up to see who I ran into.
"Are you alright?" I look up to see a tall, quite muscular guy looking back at me. He looked somewhat around my age, maybe a year or two older. He held his hand out which I quickly grabbed a hold of and pulled myself up.
"Yeah, I'm fine, sorry. I wasn't watching where I was going." I chuckled.
"You're all good, just be careful, yeah?" He said. I nodded before saying goodbye to the handsome stranger and continuing my run. Only half an hour to go.
I reach the nearby park, which also happens to have a running track. I start running my laps, music blasting through my airpods. I can hear the thudding of my feet to the ground, and my heart thumping in my chest. I focus back on the music, and trying to push my feet faster. It's nice out tonight, it's quite chilly (ew I sound like a karen lmao) but it's not cold to the point where I have goosebumps. There's soon someone running on the track with me, and soon enough they run up next to me.
"Can't say I expected you to be here." I look over and see no other than Nick, looking very sweaty. He must've been running too. I thought he had to go home?
"You know me, can't stay still for the life of me." We always used to make jokes about how I could never sit still, what can I say I get bored easily.
"I gotta say Jules, I don't think this is healthy for you." He said, keeping up alongside me. My questions about why he was here immediately faded as I start speeding up, not wanting to have this conversation but he speeds up too. My legs are killing me, feeling next to jello but I have to keep going.
"I have no clue what you're talking about, I'm a perfectly healthy teen." I said.
"You had an apple for lunch, you barely had any dinner and now you're running for, what, half an hour straight?" He sounded quite pissed off, and frankly I was too.
"I'm fine, Nick. I have everything under control. I just had a granola bar before I came here."
He just laughed before muttering a 'yeah, sure' under his breath.
We were just running side by side, me struggling to stick with the pace I set but not wanting to be a pussy and slow down.
'Suck it up, you've done worse so be grateful.' How lovely, the voice is back. I start seeing little black dots on the corners of my vision. 'Keep going.' So I do, I run faster in an attempt to ignore whatever is happening to me. I focused on the music, the beat of the music matching the beat of my feet hitting the ground. My head starts hurting, and my hearing goes kind of fuzzy. I slow down a bit, trying my hardest to keep up and push through it.
'You don't wanna be a fat disappointment do you? Keep pushing' I push, my legs feeling weak and my vision becoming blurred.
"Jules, you don't look too good." I barely heard Nick say.
I muttered a "i'm fine" but Nick stood in front of me and grabbed my hips, physically stopping me and I didn't bother fighting it. A sudden wave of heat overtook me, and it felt like I was on fire.
"Stop, I need to keep going." I mumbled, trying to get out of his grip and keep going. I wasn't finished with my run. Nick was saying things but I couldn't hear him. Everything was fuzzy, I couldn't actually see anything either, just the outline of things like shadows. And I could hear Nick was talking but I couldn't comprehend what he was saying. I lift my arms, which feel oddly much heavier, to my ears to take out my airpods in an attempt to hear Nick clearer. It didn't help much.
"I can't hear you." I muttered, breathing heavily. An uneasiness swirled in my stomach, and that's all I remember before everything went completely black.
