-Chapter 65: Freedom from Chains of the Soul

(Shinji's POV)

I lift my head, opening my eyes as my vision gets back to normal. "Where am I?" I ask.

I feel a hand go onto my shoulder and turn my head, my eyes landing on the familiar face of Ora. What is she doing here? How did I even get here?

"You need to know about something you've been doing lately. It is important for you to know about this now, Shinji," Ora says, removing her hand from my shoulder. "You were choking me just a moment ago. You were planning on a way to murder me."

I was trying to murder her? Why would I try and do that when I am only trying to get her attention? Everyone has to fall for me. Why would I kill the person I'm trying to get to like me? She's the only person besides Kurena who dislikes my guts.

"I was choking you?" I don't get why I even would, so I hope she can explain it to me. "Why was I doing that?"

Ora looks away. "Nephilim. Nepy, Nephy, or whatever he wants to be called."

"Ne...Nepy?" Sounds deranged.

"It is his nickname. He's the other you and I don't like him one bit. He would have gotten the job done if I didn't scream your name a few times. You were almost too late." She looks a bit upset with me about how long it took me to wake up.

I look away, unsure of what to say to make this better, and swallow. How do I make this better? How do I stop some other side of me I just learned about?

"You don't need to worry about him too much. I just didn't want him eliminating me. He's not you at the end of the day. If you were eliminating me, I wouldn't have minded it as much. At least you wouldn't have enjoyed it."

I look back at Ora. "It isn't like I want him to kill you."

"I am aware. You want me to join your fan club." She rolls her eyes. "Not happening ever."

"It doesn't hurt to keep trying."

She scoffs. "Whatever you say."

"Why do you dislike me so much? I honestly want everyone to love and adore me." I feel like I need to adoration.

"You're old while I'm young and hip." She smiles, looking quite amused by her own response.

"You're a sociopath."

"You're just like me," she says, laughing a little. "If we were in a different timeline, maybe I would be into you, Shinji."

I stare at her in shock. "What?"

She shrugs her shoulders. "I believe that with all the time stuff going on here, that there are multiple different possible worlds out there. I didn't think so before, but timelines change it seems. Maybe there is a world where I'm a huge fan girl of yours and you're not so old."

"I'm going to tell you a secret." I stare at her. "I haven't aged since I was younger."

She raises an eyebrow. "You're seriously not old?"

"In age, I am, but not in appearance. It's frozen for an unknown reason," I say, smiling. "I'm forever around eighteen to early twenties in appearance. Everyone else around me ages, but I don't."

"Your mom looked younger in her older age, right?"

"Slightly older, but still young. Why?"

"Time must have froze for both of you. But your sister ages, right?"

"She does."

"I will look into this for you," she says, moving to my side. "If I figure out anything, I will tell you, but you must promise me not to let that side harm me. If he puts another finger on me, I will stop searching for the reason why you're no longer aging."
