-Chapter 40: The Future is Changing, But That's Not the Only Problem

"Hey, I'm back everyone!" 

I look over at the door as Kurena steps into the room, shutting the door behind herself. I wonder what took her so long to come. That girl is being a handful today! 

"Where were you?" Sougo asks. "We were figuring out what to do about the current situation and you just bailed."

"Mom said I could go and visit someone. So, that is what I did," Kurena answers, looking at me. "I am sorry it took so long, but we went out to get a drink and talk." And who was she going out to get a drink with? 

"Who did you go out with?" I want to know who it is and I want to know who it is now. I am not going to let her go out with some random people at all hours of the day. 

She looks away, laughing. "It was just someone I met recently. Do you really need a name for them?" I have a feeling that it is someone she doesn't need to be hanging out with. 

"Give your mother the name of the person you were hanging out with," Sougo tells her. "We want to know who it is and all. You're allowed to hang out with someone, but we need to know who so we can be sure to talk to them if something happens to you."

Kurena looks at Sougo, looking slightly annoyed. "I don't have to answer to you."

"I think that you do since I'm your father. Sure, that is in the future, but I'm still your father. I can just leave a note for my future self to ask for you to come home and have that happen," Sougo tells her.

Her eyes go wide. "You wouldn't."

"Oh, you better believe that I will." Sougo is really going at it today. He's not messing around when it comes to his beloved daughter. 

"Fine, I'll tell you. I was hanging out with Tsukasa," Kurena states. "We went out and had a drink, which was completely innocent. Nothing happened between us at all! So, don't freak out at me for going out with him."

She went out with the enemy? How can she do that? He's not someone she should be hanging out with. He's absolutely dangerous and just not easy to read. He is up to no good to me and I can't stand for this.

"Kurena, you shouldn't be hanging out with him," I say, shaking my head. "He's trouble."

"You stay with a man who is an evil overlord, but you don't see me telling you in the future to back away from that. Of course, I can't now." She turns away, staring at the door. "Mom, you wouldn't even listen to me to back off Sougo. Why should I back off from meeting with someone as a friend?"

"She has a point," Geiz says, interrupting our conversation.

"What is going on here?" Woz asks curiously.

I turn to Woz. "She went and got a drink with our enemy, Tsukasa whatever his last name is," I answer, being completely honest. "Can you tell her how dangerous it is to be around him? He has been getting too involved with things around here."

"He's just doing what he thinks is right, mom." 

I look back at Kurena as she turns to face us again. She seems like she isn't going to back down. Well, I guess I should allow her to keep seeing him. But if she is going to do so, she's going to have watch herself around him and keep it friendly. 

"Sougo, I think she should keep seeing him."

"What?" Sougo asks. "Marina, is that even alright?"

I turn to him and nod. "She's fine since she can defend herself. She's not in any danger with him as far as I can tell. But that doesn't mean I trust him and I think she should be careful. That guy is nothing but trouble."
