you fold your thoughts
                              into paper cranes,
                              sharp edges and tucks,
                              a mystery of ivory
                              before sending them across
                              still, silent waters
so I can scoop them up
                              before they droop and drown
and I kiss their falling feathers,
                              each soft, spectacular idea
                              sparking against my lips,
                              leaving them wild and alive,
                              and slowly you smile
                              as I hold your mind
                              like a dream I don't ever
                              want to lose
