Say "Frenzy"

"So what? If I get taken by the Entity without my weapon, am I just fucked? Like, should I have it on me at all times?"

I was looking through the broken glass bottle at a warped version of Frank. Susie and I shared a couch by the fireplace in the main room of the Ormond lodge.

She was doodling skulls on my free arm with a black ink-pen while Frank sat across from us in an armchair.

"The Entity knows what belongs to you. Your stuff will be there at the campfire when you're summoned."

Frank and Susie were filling me in on how everything works.

Joey was at the bar across the room, chatting with a guy named Danny, who looked normal, but kept glancing at me from the corner of his eye. Creepy vibes, but to be expected honestly.

"Wait," I started, "I didn't see a campfire last time. I went straight into the trial."

"It was your first time." Frank replied. "Probably just a test run." he said as he patted his thighs.

"Maybe you just weren't paying attention." Susie chimed in as she continued her doodles. "It happens sometimes. You look up, get lost in the empty sky.."

She was now coloring in a skull with vigor.

"Ya know, just wondering which survivor you're gonna slash first. Will it be the dorky one with glasses? Or maybe that showoff Meg.."

She gritted her teeth when she mentioned that last one. She also broke my skin bearing down with her pen.

"Owwwahh!" I tried to wrestle my arm away from her to no avail.

"Oh shut up, Zerick. I needed this color anyways." She said.

"My name is Sarek.." I told her for the twentieth time.

She just giggled and started smearing her doodles red with what little blood she could squeeze out of me.

Julie bustled in through the front doors in a huff. All of us turned to greet her, but didn't get the chance.

She screamed, "THOSE FUCKING BITCHES! I'LL KILL TH-" and was taken away by the fog again as quickly as she came.

"What was that about?" I asked, looking from person to person in the lodge.

Frank sighed and rolled his eyes, "That's what happens when you don't impress the Entity."

"Julie gets real mad and it makes her totally suck." Susie told me. "That's why you never let the survivors get under your skin. You have to be tough like me." She said puffing out her cheeks.

They lectured me on the ins and outs of the killer role in this nightmare realm. As a member of The Legion, I had been granted the special power to run really fast, and vault over windows and pallets.

Seemed a bit underwhelming to me. It was called a 'Frenzy'.

I could run, stab a survivor, which inflicted a deep wound, and then I was alerted to the location of other nearby survivors, which I would also run to and inflict deep wounds upon.

The deep wound caused a survivor to have to mend themselves within a certain time frame, or else risk going down.

Apparently, this 'Frenzy' had the ability to injure multiple survivors very quickly.

Once they are injured, a basic slash from my weapon would put them on the ground. When a survivor is downed, it was my job to pick them up, and toss them on a nearby hook.

If an individual is hooked three times, sometimes less depending on how quickly other survivors can get them off, then they are sacrificed to the Entity.

Frank told me not to worry about add-on items for my power. He said I should get used to my power in its most basic form.

But these add-on items could alter my power in various ways, although, he's not getting into that right now.

"Remember," Frank said touching his temple, "you'll be up against seasoned survivors. Most of them have been here a long time."

Joey stood from his bar stool and began making his way to where Frank, Susie and me were sitting.

"Yeah, don't let 'em break your ankles, man." He added.

I guess that was Joey's idea of a helpful tip.

Julie appeared again some twenty minutes later, this time visibly exhausted. She dropped her sawtooth blade on the floor and took off her smiley face mask.

She breathed heavily as Susie left my side to rush to hers.

"That outta buy me some free time." Julie said, sweating. "What are you jerk-offs doing?"

Susie responded, "We're teaching Zerick stuff he won't really learn till he experiences it in the trials. It's really boring.."

Joey nudged my shoulder, "I thought your name was Sarah?"

I just put head in my hands.

"It's Sarek!" I pleaded, even though I knew they were mispronouncing it on purpose.

"Hey!" Julie shouted, now walking with Susie back to the center of the room.
"Who invited the creep over?" She pointed to Danny, still sitting at the bar.

"Nice to see you too." He replied happily.
"Joey invited me, said you needed a new group photo." He flashed an old polaroid camera to the room.

Joey stood, pulling me up with him. He directed everyone to move in close, and pushed me out front and center.

Frank, on my right, wrapped his hands around my neck in a teasing way, although he couldn't hide his desire to choke me out very well. I kept having to tap his hands to get him to loosen his grip.

Susie, on the left, crouched down while continuously doodling on my arm.

Joey and Julie were behind me, each kissing opposite sides of my head.

"Say 'Frenzy'!" Danny instructed, as Susie jammed her pen into my arm again.

I howled in pain as the flash went off.

I'm sure it was a great picture, but I didn't get to stick around to see it.

As Danny plucked the photo from the camera, I tasted ash. Around me I saw nothing but black fog spiraling, and the floor seemed to drop from beneath my feet

My stomach felt invaded by fluttering insects, my hair whipping around like I was caught in a hurricane.

Then suddenly, I touched down, and the fog cleared. I noticed I was just inside a dense tree-line. Through the eyeholes of my paper bag mask, I saw four people huddled together around a campfire in the clearing up ahead.
