The black fog dumped my body at the edge of a cornfield. The air was dry and warm, like an early autumn night in the south.
Moments passed before being released from the invisible force that held me in place, and I started making my way through the corn stalks feeling like I just had an out-of-body experience.
Various rules and jargon were ripping through my mind. I was worried about remembering the terms of my power, and how my perks worked, all the little tips Frank and Susie had offered.
It was overwhelming and making me anxious, bringing on the urge to chew my bottom lip. I needed to focus my awareness.
I had never treked through a corn-field before, and it wasn't as fun as I would've thought. The stalks were sharp. They were catching on my clothes, and tearing my hands to shreds with a thousand tiny cuts.
Frank's advice was to head towards the generator that was the furthest away from where I started, so that's what I did.
My pace was that of a power-walk.
Before I even made it across the map to the target generator, I heard an explosion at my two o'clock.
The survivors weren't wasting any time. A red aura turned yellow which meant Discordance had been activated.
This was good news, in my mind. At least I didn't have to guess anymore. I knew where at least two survivors were, which wasn't far away.
I came out of the fields to see the yellow aura of the generator behind some rickety old wooden walls.
I entered through a narrow path and as I turned a corner, three survivors ceased their repairs and fled in various directions.
Behind them, on the ground and walls, they left little red scratch marks. A visual cue that The Entity gave the killers to track our victims.
The one survivor I didn't see was the girl in bloody clothes with the pink hair. She made a good decision not sticking around the others.
Now I had to make a decision. Which survivor do I chase?
"I'm comin' for you, Cowboy Boots!" I called out, announcing my verdict.
I followed the red-haired girl out of the jungle gym of wooden walls, simply because when she had started to run, she clumsily shouldered the wall and nearly toppled over, which slowed her down a lot.
I was confident I could catch her, and realized this would be the time to activate my Frenzy power, although I wasn't quite sure how. I guess I'll just.. start running?
Cowboy Boots was headed for the corn-field, and I was right on her tail. She looked behind her while sprinting around in sporadic directions, making it nearly impossible to aim an attack.
I lunged, my weapon catching her on the side of her left arm. Blood splattered up to my elbow, and the girl screamed.
The inflicted deep wound triggered the tracking portion of my power.
I noticed a red, pulsing honeycomb aura moving through the fields to my right. That was my next target.
Before I took off after the strange aura, I glanced back at the girl I had just attacked. She hadn't run away yet, she was knelt down and holding onto her injured arm.
Was she trying to mend her wound right in front of me? Why would she do that?
Since she hadn't moved, I realized this could be an easier down than I thought. Cowboy Boots realized I wasn't going to just run off, and as she stood and began slumping away, she scolded me for it.
