60 years later
Hugh's POV
"I'll take Millard."
"Ok then I'll take Claire."
Horace and I are choosing soccer teams, he finally agreed to play as long as we don't damage his clothes, like that'll work.
"Ok but she can't use her back mouth."
Horace frowned, but when he saw Claire's eyes shimmer he decided to keep her anyways.
"I'll take the twins." I shouted.
"You can't have them both!"
"They won't leave each other!"
The twins nodded in unison and spoke their own little talk. They've been here 15 years but have yet to say anything to anyone other than themselves.
Horace rolled his eyes but understood.
"Then I take Fiona."
Fiona looked up from her book and looked at me expectedly.
"She's not playing."
"Why, because you'll lose?"
Fiona smiled and put a dried daisy in her book.
"Ok Fee, let's see what you got."
She smiled joined Horace's side.
"And no commanding the grass to trip us up."
She rolled her eyes and Horace called them over to explain plays.
"Fiona, darling, why must you wear this dirty old sack?" Horace whined, "You'd look wonderful in this new dress I'm designing—"
"Horace!" Millard whined.
Horace shot up his hands in defeat, "oh bullocks why must you get all the fun?"
Just as the ball hit the ground Miss Peregrine called for us,
"Children, please come inside for lunch."
"Oh great Horace you wasted all the time talking about bloody clothes; again!"
"Oh simmer down bee boy we'll play after."
Fiona giggled and stuck out her tongue.
We went inside and washed up, I heard Miss Peregrine hassling Fiona about the dirt under her nail beds, but I could tell by Miss Peregrine's sigh that she knew Fiona wasn't going to stop digging for new worms.
As we all sat down ready to dig in Miss Peregrine stopped us,
"Children, I have an announcement."
"But I'm starving!" Millard whined, but Miss Peregrine shot him a look that could kill.
"Mister Nullings, polite persons do not interrupt."
"Sorry."
"As I was saying," she shot Millard some side eye, "Abe's grandson will be joining us today." I heard Emma's fork clatter.
"Forever?" She asked, she looked sad, scared, and happy all at once.
"I do not know Miss Bloom, but I can assure you we will all be on our best behavior, right Mr. O'Connor?"
Enoch rolled his eyes, "Yes, Miss."
(Time skip)
Fiona dashed the ball to the left, then to the right. She body checked my shoulder and knocked me back, but I didn't fall. She passed the ball through my legs and then back to herself before shooting a clear goal between Millard.
"Touchdown!" Yelled Horace.
Enoch grumbled, "it's 'goal' you pansy."
The two started bickering before Emma called for him.
"Millard, Enoch, let's go!"
Her, Millard, Bronwyn and Enoch went to fetch Abe's grandson Jacob.
"Oh please can I go!" Whined little Olive.
"I'm sorry my little magpie, but it could be dangerous." Bronwyn crouched down to Olive and wiped her tear, "don't worry girly, you'll see him soon!"
That seemed to cheer her up as she ran away to Claire and the Twins, most likely to play dolls.
"Let's just hope he wasn't like his grandfather." Grumbled Enoch.
Emma's hands heated up as she grabbed his shirt, "Abe Portman was a hero!"
"He was a bloody show pony!"
Enoch got a hot slap to the face and cried out,
"I'm telling Miss Peregrine!"
"And she won't think you deserved it?"
Enoch started to walk off and sulk but Bronwyn caught him by his collar,
"Not so fast, we have strict orders from Miss Peregrine—"
"Alright, alright, no need to strangle me."
When they came back Jacob was with them. He had shaggy brown hair (Just use movie Jake because he was a perfect cast) and ice blue eyes. If he weren't Abe's grandson I would assume he was a wight just because of how light his eyes were. Emma fawned over him, but I could tell she was guarding her emotions. He was handsome, I could see the appeal, but I wasn't jealous. Fiona and I have been in love longer than most people could fathom, I'd marry her tomorrow if I could. Hell, I'd even marry her now . Most days I wish I could grow old with her, actually old. We'd get married, buy a house, have a baby, have more babies. I'd work and she'd stay home or I'd stay home and she would work or maybe we'd both work and hire a nanny, whatever kept her happy, I'd do it.
I could see her under the oak tree she grew years ago reading some book she snatched from Millard's collection. I stroll over there.
"Have you seen the new guy yet?"
She nods, "He looks like Abe." She whispers.
I nod solemnly.
"Is he a hollow hunter too?" I could hear her voice crack, I could tell she was afraid of him. She loved Abe, but we knew the hollow was on the island for him, the same hollow that killed Victor.
Fiona ran down the hill, her eyes were as wide as dinner plates. She had a nasty bruise starting to purple on her face. Bronwyn ran right past her, as did Emma and Enoch. Tears ran down Fiona's face but all I saw was fear. I never realized how fast she was.
"I'll never let anything happen to you."
She smiled, but I can tell she didn't believe me. I didn't believe me. But I know I'd do anything to protect her.
