Third Person POV
No one paid much attention to the cries that drifted through the house. No one noticed the girl who floated 3 inches off the ground, or the clothes that looked to be hanging on an invisible mannequin. Even if anyone did notice, it wouldn't matter. They were all strange in one way or another. But that was the very base of the whole problem, they were all different.
Fiona's POV
I saw Hugh in a large black sport coat with a white shirt and black trousers, definitely not his own clothes. He walked briskly towards me, not caring about the people he knocked over or nudged in his path. I threw my arms around his neck.
"You're soaking," I whispered.
"I had to go get Jake."
My eyes widened.
"Come on, let's go find somewhere to talk, all of us."
We hid in the hallway which Horace apparently had a key for. Lucky for us, no one seemed to mind—or notice— that we got extra space. Olive managed to find a box of stale saltines and a few mushy apples. I wasn't hungry, but Hugh and the others scarfed it down in under a minute.
"I have an idea." Jake finally said after taking several sips of slightly filtered ditch water. He grimaced at the taste.
"And?" Hugh asked.
"We need to go to the Library of Souls."
Everyone around me gasped.
"Where is that?" Noor asked nervously.
"Where we defeated Caul."
"Where we thought we defeated Caul." Jake scowled at Enoch.
"Why there?" Horace asked.
"I have a plan, but you can't tell Miss P."
Emma shook her head, "I don't like this."
"I don't like any of this." Claire moaned.
"I'm afraid he's right." We all spun around to see Addison.
"How did you get in here?" Horace asked defensively.
"Nitter natter, we have bigger problems on our plates."
"He's right."
"How are you all getting in here!" Horace asked frustrated.
"I'm afraid that's ymbryne business." Miss Peregrine strode towards us.
"Tonight we don't act, we don't fight, we rest." Everyone groaned.
"So he's going to wait outside like the big bad wolf?" Noor asked.
"Miss Pradesh, I understand you're frustrated—"
"Frustrated? No I'm pissed. I wasn't exactly living top tier, but I had my friends, I had Lily." Millard sighed sadly next to me.
"But no, I came with you guys, because you told me your little sob story and I, for some reason, thought that I'd 'save your little world' and then I could, I don't know, be normal! Go to a university!" Noor shook her head. She was radiating with more heat and light with every breath.
"Now I'm here, and I love you guys, you're my family," she gestured to all of us, "but I miss Lily! I miss the world! And I miss Netflix!"
Was that her boyfriend from before?
"Which is selfish, yes, but now we're just sitting ducks waiting to die! So no, Miss Peregrine, I'm not frustrated, IM FUCKING PISSED!" She screamed. The lights started to flicker and she stormed off.
"I'll take care of that." Jake said. Before he walked away he turned back to us, "she's right though," he looked at Miss Peregrine, "we're just waiting to die."
My people and I managed to grow food out of bathtubs, nothing too plentiful, maybe one good carrot for every 6 wilted ones, but it was food. At around 1 a.m., we managed to have all 200 refugees dry and sleeping with full bellies. I'd never felt so worn in my whole life, maybe with the hollow, but not like this. I finally trudged back to our private hallway. Two twin boys and a girl with a snake around her neck were with us, too.
"Fee, this is Joel-and-Peter," Enoch said motioning towards the twins.
"And that's Snake Girl." Enoch said lamely.
"Simren!" She hissed. I nodded.
"That's Fiona." I blushed and smiled at the ground. "She doesn't talk much." Claire tired whisper, but she was terrible at whispering so the whole acre could have heard her. Hugh was leaning on Millard's shoulder sound asleep. Noor and Jake were still gone.
"Fee, good dinner despite our conditions," Horace paused, "although seasonings are a chefs best friend." I showed him my middle finger and he laughed.
"Way to use your words!" I rolled my eyes at him and slumped my back down the wall.
"Get back you heathens!" Emma yelled. She slammed the door shut.
"I spend all night scurrying around like a house maid only for them to demand more and more! When did peculiars get so selfish in a time of need?" Emma whined. I shook my head shamefully.
"Is there any food left, Fiona? I didn't get any."
Emma said sheepishly. Hugh was awake now and next to me groggily.
"What did I miss?" Hugh asked, he was still rubbing the sleep from his eyes and stifling a yawn. I whispered to him.
"Fee will grow you something to eat, but then she's going to sleep."
"Oh thank you!" Emma hugged me. I nodded and creaked the large door open and stepped out.
"Wait for me!" Millard was behind me, his floating hat and jacket gave him away rather immediately.
"I cannot listen to anyone snore any longer!" He huffed. Enoch was still dead asleep, and Hugh drifting off. As much as I loved them both, their snoring drove me crazy at times. Enoch was proud of it, too.
"Let's go grow some potatoes!"
"Keep it down, would ya!" A burly man shouted.
"You're the one shouting!" Millard shouted back. I chuckled and rolled my eyes as Millard and the burly man started to get yelled at by everyone else trying to sleep. Next thing I knew, I heard Emma screaming.
