Fiona's POV
11:26
My whole body is on fire. Pain on every square inch, I'm in the 7 rings of hell. Horace stayed to my right where Hugh resided on the left. The doctor had a blue sheet tented over my knees to keep my area hidden, at least I was groomed. Everyone else was waiting in the hall.
"Ok, it's time to push, are you ready?" I nodded. Two nurses dressed in pink were prepping a glass box nearby, was that for the baby? I was told to wait until a contraction hit to push so nothing tore. Why did we need a baby so bad? Why did it need to happen this way? Hugh has the most punchable face right now!
I felt a ring of fire and I pushed like the doctor said to. I screamed and fell back after pushing twice.
This baby was going to have to stay here.
Hugh's POV
11:45
I sent Horace into the hall after I noticed he looked faint. Fiona pushed again and let her head fall back into the pillow crying.
"I can't do it." She cried.
I sat her up and got behind her.
"You got this ok? You are the strongest woman I know."
As if she sensed we needed her, Miss Peregrine came in the room. Fiona shook her head and cried. The doctor and the nurses looked bewildered at the coming and going if our guests. Miss Peregrine took Fiona's hand and kissed her head.
"One second of pain for a lifetime of happiness." Fiona nodded.
Fiona squeezed the rails of the bed, she was having another contraction.
"Push!" I yelled.
"We have a head!" The doctor cried out. Fiona laughed weakly and panted. I used my sleeve the dab the sweat from her forehead. Fiona grunted and yelled as she pushed again.
"Shoulders! Ok now one more!"
Fiona cried out and leaned against me. Miss Peregrine still held her hand. Fiona groaned once more and I heard a cry. She fell back and I moved her as I went to the end of the bed to see the baby. Miss Peregrine held Fiona's hand and told her what a good job she did. I cut the cord as the nurses helped clean Fiona up a bit. I carried the now cooing baby in a white swaddle fo Fiona.
"It's a boy." I said. Fiona cried as she held him.
"I'll give you some privacy." Miss Peregrine ushered the doctors out as well as they seemed to be done with Fiona. I heard everyone cheer in the hallway as soon and Miss Peregrine came out.
"He's beautiful." She said as she leaned down and kissed his nose. Fiona scooted over and I sat in bed next to her.
"He's perfect."
"All fingers and toes?" Fiona asked playfully.
"13 of each." Fiona laughed and smacked my arm.
"Are you in any pain?" I asked. Fiona looked at me like I asked the dumbest thing in the whole world.
"Right, do you want me to get you anything?"
"No, I want you to stay here with us."
"Baby Victor?" I asked.
"Baby Victor."
The others came bright and early the next morning. The doctors took Victor overnight with the other babies for observation, they said it was routine but Fiona didn't trust it all the way.
Fiona had just finished feeding him when Horace came in with balloons that were obviously from the present and a shirt that read 'Worlds Best Uncle!'
"He's so precious!" Fiona handed him to Horace. Everyone crowded around us. Ann was less enthusiastic about the baby and more about the gift shop Millard promised to bring her later.
"Thank the birds, he looks nothing like you." Millard joked. I laughed and playfully punched him on the shoulder.
"So when we're you gonna tell us about Lily?" Fiona giggled at my question.
"I wasn't going to rain on your parade!"
Victor started to cry but Enoch bounced him on his hip. I was about to snatch him from his dirty dead man hands when I noticed for the first time in all these decades his hands were scrubbed clean.
After everyone met him, Noor and Emma asked the burning question.
"Well we heard he was a boy—"
"What did you name him?" Noor squealed.
"Victor." I turned in shock to look at Fiona, her thick Irish accent mixed with her whisper made it barley audible, but Bronwyn heard it. She let out a sob as she took him from Olive and kissed his forehead. Jake patted my back.
"Where have you been?" Enoch asked.
"I- uh-"
Fiona smiled and shook her head.
"Sorry I missed it, Fee."
She shrugged and smiled.
I stepped out with the guys and young ones while the girls showed Fiona how to use a breast pump. I don't think anyone knew how to use it besides Noor and maybe Miss Peregrine.
"Decades I've shared a home with Jeff, and today was the first time I heard her speak." Millard said in awe.
"Wait, she spoke?"
"Yup, for the first time. This is why we don't miss things, Jakey." Millard mocked.
"Well actually I told her gossip last night and she talked too." Horace said in a "I'm better than you" voice.
I laughed and folded my arms, "and I've been talking to her for longer than all of you have known her!"
"What did she say?" Jake asked. Claire, Olive, and Ann were licking lolly pops they got from the nurses.
"The name!" Ann said between licks.
"What is his name? I miss that." Jake scratched the back of his head sheepishly. I would have been annoyed if this weren't the best day of my life.
"Victor."
"After.. that Victor?"
"No you bloody fool, a different one." Enoch said sarcastically.
"Where were you last night anyways?"
Jack smiled smugly and blushed.
"Well you missed the birth of my child so now I have to know." I prodded.
"I got laid." Jake said.
"Daddy, what does it mean to get laid?" Ann asked. I laughed while Millard most definitely turned red.
"I think it's the thing Fiona and Hugh did to get a baby." Olive said matter-of-factly.
"Ohhh, like the magazines I found when we were at Millard's?" Claire said.
"Yeah! Like that!" Olive smiled.
Enoch and I couldn't contain our laughter for the rest of the afternoon
