Some Strange Type of Peculiar Love

Horace's Movie

Hugh's POV
"I wish it was me."
That's what she said. She wished it was her, granted she said she only felt like that on her worst days but still, the fact she felt it at all broke my heart.

I heard Bronwyn sob in the other room.
"What happened?" Claire choked out.
" It appears Victor and Fiona were on their daily walk when the hollow attacked." Miss Peregrine looked ahead steely at no one in particular.
"I thought hollows couldn't enter loops?" Asked Horace.
"It seems they've evolved, but I can assure you there are none left on this island."
"That you know of." Enoch growled.
I jumped off the couch and headed up the stairs to Fiona's room.
"Fiona! Fiona! It me, love! Open up!" I pounded on the door but it wouldn't budge.
I went back down the stairs, bees flying around. Everyone was still in the foyer, red eyed and puffy.
"Where's Bronwyn?" I asked.
"In her room." Emma said solemnly.
"Mr. Apiston, how is Miss Fraunfeld?"
"I don't know, she locked her door I can't get in there."
She nodded.
"Olive?" I asked.
"Yes?" She sniffled, I almost told her to forget about it, but then I remembered how much worse Fiona must feel.
"I need you to float to Fiona's window, I'll hold the rope."
"Mr. Apiston,"
"Please? I just need to know she's ok."
Miss Peregrine nodded and Olive went to fetch her rope, I stood there waiting.
"Is Bronwyn—?"
"She is about as ok as you'd expect, there's stages to this, it'll take some time but I think one day she'll be... ok."
I nodded and Olive came back with the rope.

......

"What do you see?" I shout.
She motions her with her hand to give her some more rope.
"What about now?"
She motions for me to bring her down.
I help her put on her shoes and untie the rope.
"What did you see?" I ask
"She had her blinds closed but I could see her, she has her dresser against the door. And there are vines everywhere!"
"What's she doing?"
"She's just sitting there, like this," she got on the ground and hugged her knees and rocked back and forth.

I guess I wasn't eating much at dinner, Fiona frowned and turned her head like a puppy listening to a new sound, a smiled to reassure her I was ok.
"Alright children, let's go watch Horace's projection before we reset the loop."
"I'll boil some hot chocolate." Emma got up abs walked to the kitchen.
"I'll take tea please, Miss Bloom." Miss Peregrine shouted after her.
I got up and Fiona held my hand.
"Come on, lovebirds!" Yelled Enoch.
Fiona blushed and I kissed her temple.

Emma handed around the drinks, not too hot not too cold.
"I added some honey for your bees, Hugh."
"Thanks Em."
She smiled and nodded before cozying up to Jake. Horace put his monocle and started the movie.

The movie

"Hurry!" Yelled Emma.
The bomb was hurdling towards the house, only we weren't lined up ready to reset the loop. Instead, there was an invisible force ripping the house apart.
"Help!" Claire yelled, "I'm stuck!"
Then it was me, running on the roof into the window, then the dream faded into Horace shopping.

Fiona gripped my hand in fear.
"Don't worry it was only a bad dream, right Horace?" Everyone stared at him, and he turned to look at Miss Peregrine.
"I don't doubt it, don't worry children, you're safe here."

After reset I pulled Fiona aside,
"Meet me outside later tonight, don't wake anyone."
She looked puzzled but nodded.

12:39 AM
I saw Fiona slink out her window and jump 5 feet to the tree at the edge of the roof, I always hold my breath when she does that, even though she's being doing it for almost 60 years, I'm still afraid one day it'll go wrong and she'll fall and get hurt.
She jogged over to me,
"Is everything alright?"
"Yes, I just wanted to see you."
She rolled her eyes and smiled making my heart leap. She's always been beautiful, but tonight in the moonlight it was different. We snuck close to the loop entrance so no one could see us. I pulled her by her waist and kissed her. I felt her lean against me with her hands on my neck. She tasted like pure ecstasy. She was sweet and her smiles made me melt.
"Ha! Busted!" Emma whisper shouted.
I laughed, "off to see Jake huh?"
She smiled and held a finger to her lips, "I won't tell if you won't." I nodded and Fiona blushed. When Emma left I pulled her back and kissed her.
"I love you."
I lifted her chin up to me, "I love you too."
Eventually we lay down on the blanket I brought. Fiona was laying between my legs, I was holding her head in my lap. I could hear her drift off into sleep, she sounded so peaceful.
"Fiona?"
"Hm?"
"I thank the birds everyday it wasn't you."

"Fiona! Let me in!"
Oh to hell with this! I thought. I got Millard to pick the lock and I pushed the door open, the dresser was probably scratching the floor.
"Thanks man."
"I'll leave you guys," he paused, "if you need help just call for me."
Fiona was sitting in the corner, staring blankly into the abyss of nothing. Her room was pitch black except for a small gas lit lamp sitting next to her.
"Fee," I grabbed her hand but she flinched. She had long tentacle like bruises on her face. Her knee was bloody and swollen. The worst was her eyes, they were wide and afraid, but they were scanning the room like a feral dog.
"I couldn't see it." She whispered, not breaking her gaze.
"I know love, I know."
She looked at me, "No, you don't."
I sat next to her.
"He didn't have eyes."
"The hollow?"
She shook her head and looked at me, her eyes were so red the almost looked bloody, "It didn't look like him."
"The hollow?"
She shook her head again, "Victor."
I nodded and held her hand.
"He-he didn't even look like him. It- he- Victor was g-gone." She sobbed into my shoulder and I turned and put my arms around her.
"Shhhh." But she only cried harder.

Before I knew it, she was drifting off to sleep.
