Hugh's POV

We had potatoes, bread, chicken and cake for dinner. Addison ushered the chickens into the house and assured us he got the chickens from an outside source. Jake just glared. Emma cleared her throat and held Jake's hand. We had a quiet dinner, not because it was awkward but because it was probably one of the last good meals we would have for awhile.
"Addison informed us today that Miss Peregrine needs to change back in two days or she will be stuck forever in bird form forever."The room went silent and Olive started to cry.
"B-but—"
It was good Claire was in the house sleeping as this kind of distress would not help her get well faster.
"We leave tomorrow." Jake said.
"So two days to what? Where are we going?"
"Into the heart of London."
"Oh great so today we just took a detour." Enoch grumbled.
"Everyone get some shut eye, we have a long day tomorrow."

All of us were scattered around outside. I took some blankets and pillows for Fiona and I.
"Off to your romantic getaway I see." Emma chuckled. I rolled my eyes and smiled.
"Just make sure your all rested up."
"Emma?"
"Yes?"
"Is Claire going to be ok for travel?" I asked. But her look told me everything I needed to know.
"Fiona offered to stay behind."
"That's brave of her."
"She can't stay!" I shouted.
Emma's face softened. "We'll see, get some rest." She put her hand on my shoulder and kissed my cheek. I spun on my heel and walked back up the hill.
"Boo!"
Fiona's mouth hung open on fear along with her eyes, but no sound came out. She rolled her eyes and laughed. A light smack fell on my arm. We spread the fluffy comforter on the ground and put the light sheet on the top. I put my arm around her and kissed her. She grew a flower and I helped Henry pollinate it.
"Where did you get new seeds?"
"Addison gave me some seeds from Miss Wrens collection."
"Let me guess, the rest is in your hair?"
She laughed and nodded.
We laid down and I put my arm around her. The night was warm and the sheet provided the right amount of heat.
"Fiona?"
She looked at me.
"Are you really gonna stay?" Tears were rolling down the side of my face. I felt water droplets penetrate my shirt, she was crying too.
"I love you." She choked out.
"I love you too." She kissed me and every feeling of despair melted away. I pulled her on top of me and I felt her hands run through my hair.
"Are you sure you want to do this?" I asked, despite being together for so long this would be our first time. She nodded and kissed me.
The rest of it was history.

We snuggled in the sheet. Fiona was only wearing my shirt and her underwear. I only had my boxers. I kissed her forehead and stroked her back. She shivered and clung against me. I couldn't imagine letting her go, who knows how long I'll be gone?
"It won't be long, a week max." She whispered. It's almost as she read my mind, but we've been together every day for 60 years, a week was a long time.
"Please let me stay with you."
"They'll need you."
"They never needed it until today, and I'll I have is Henry."
"Hugh,"
"Look it's my choice! To hell with-" I yelled before Fiona put her finger to my lips.
"Hugh, let's not fight, please?"
I softened and nodded.
"Anything for you darling, anything for you."

When we woke up we watched the sunrise and put our clothes back on. I felt something  cold tickle my wrist, I looked down to see her putting her silver metal charm bracelet on my arm. I took off my sweater and handed it to her.
"But you'll get cold."
"I won't."
"But,"
I shook my head and handed it to her.
She nodded and kissed me on the cheek.
"It's one week at the most, right?"
"If you want me to stay—"
She shook her head and pulled on my sweater. The sleeves went about 3 inches off her finger tips and went about 2 inches above her knees.
I folded the blankets as Fiona went to go freshen up. I came down the hill and my cheeks burned with embarrassment at everyone's whooping and kissing sounds. Fiona flipped them the bird and laughed, she seemed less shy than usual.
"I reset the loop every day at 1, so I suggest you leave before then."
"We should leave now, how will we get there? What time is she in?"
"This time, and we have hired a steamboat to take you to the mainland."
"We need someone to stay with Claire." Emma eyed Fiona and I.
"I'm fine!" But she fell down in coughing fit.
Fiona raised her hand and looked at me sadly.
"Fee, please!" I begged one last time, but her hand stayed up.
"Thank you Fiona."

We left a half an hour later, Addison and Deidre gave us all the leftovers from the lunch and dinner yesterday along with freshly baked blueberry muffins. I pulled Addison aside for a quick chat.
"Is everything alright?" He asked.
"You know Fiona?"
"Yes, the girl who's watching over the little blond one?"
"The blond one is Claire, but the beautiful brown haired girl? That's Fiona."
"Ah, and is she the girl you were with all night?"
I blushed and nodded. "She doesn't speak does she?"
"No, and she's afraid of the dark. She loves animals, she used to sleep with her chickens in Ireland, she can talk to them to. She can grow anything you want, she's smart but can be self conscious. You cannot let anything happen to her, she's the love of my life."
Addison nodded. "I had a lass like that once, she was a golden retriever, her name was Jezebel."
"What happened to her?"
He nodded to the left.
"She's in the graveyard there."
I patted him on the head, which felt odd as he could talk, but he seemed to have welcome it.
"I'll protect them both to my dying breath."
We walked out and I kissed Fiona goodbye. She wrapped her arms around my neck and she was balancing on her tippy toes.
"I love you."
"I love you too."
We sailed off, I stared at her until she was a blur on the island. I faced the ground so no one could see my tears. Enoch patted my back and left it at that.
If I knew what was going to happen on that island four hours later, I never would have left.
