The sun is setting.
A stream of light passed through the curtains, illuminating the hospital room in hues of yellow and orange.
From the corner of her eye, (F/n) stared at Bokuto's figure. He wore the thin hospital gown that was required to be worn by every patient. He was oddly pale against the light, his usual muscular physique now diminished to a scrawny figure.
"The sun set is so pretty." He mumbled, staring out of the window of the room.
The girl watch his silhouette slowly form against the light. For one moment, she caught a glimpse of him before he was hospitalized.
A pair of sparkling eyes, A cheerful smile, A hearty laugh.
A needle of pain pierced through (F/n) 's chest, the memories seemed to weigh down heavily on her.
It already has been five months since he was diagnosed with a heart disease. The only way for him to get better is a heart transplant, which was impossible to do unless there is a heart donor.
" (F/n)," He whispered her name as he gently grasped her hand in his.
The girl turned her head to his direction, a pang of sadness hit her in the pit of her stomach as she stared at his pale face.
"I love you."
For a moment, his yellow eyes sparkled as a gentle smile formed on his lips.
Why?
(F/n) bit her lower lip, trying to hold back the tears.
Why?
All she ever wanted was to see him happy, enjoy competing in matches with his team.
I guess life doesn't always go the way you planned it to be.
" Kotaro, "
( F/n) let out a shaky breath, a moment of hesitation washing over her.
She hated it. She hated the words that came out of her mouth. She hated her decision since it was a selfish one.
A look of surprise took over his face. The sight itself pained the girl even more that she shifted her gaze somewhere else.
" W-why?" He asked, the feelings of confusion and pain evident in his tone. " Why do you want to break up with me?"
The girl stayed silent as she stared down on her own hands, avoiding his eyes as she fiddled with her own fingers.
" Is it because of my condition? Is it because you're tired of seeing me like this? Is it because-" He paused, scared to say the next words.
" You don't love anymore?"
(F/n) violently shook her from side to side, still avoiding his gaze.
" No, I still love you."
Gathering all the courage she has left in her body, she lifted her head to meet his sorrowful yellow eyes that seemed pierce a hole in her heart.
" I know it's selfish of me to ask you of this," The girl let out a shaky breath, trying to hold back the lump of emotions forming in her throat. " I just think that it'll be better this way."
"I see," A sigh escaped from his mouth as he hung his head low. "I never knew you could be this heartless."
A sad smile formed in her lips upon hearing his remark.
Well, I think so too.
The girl stood up from her seat, her metal chair emmiting an irritating scrapping sound against the floor. She took one last look at him, a feeling of regret washing all over her body.
"Goodbye, Kotaro," She muttered, low but audible enough for him to hear.
Without lifting his head up, he muttered a low 'goodbye'.
(F/n) walked out of the room and with a low 'click', she closed the door behind her.
I did it.
A tear escaped from her eye, as her trembling hand stayed put on the door knob. A part of her wanted to go back, to tell him that it was all a joke. Sadly, she can't do that. She has a reason as to why she wanted to break-up with him in the first place.
I truly love you Kotaro, I hope that you would recover soon.
Wiping away the tears that stained her face, (F/n) walked towards the nearest reception table where nurses make a list of their patients.
"Um, excuse me. I'm (L/n) (F/n), I called earlier to update Bokuto Kotaro's file."
"Oh! Here you go-" A nurse hands over a folder to her, a hospitable smile plastered on her mouth-"Once you're finished, you may leave it here."
The nurse taps the desk, indicating to leave the folder there once she has finished filling out a new file.
It's now or never (F/n).
She let out a shaky breath as she flipped the folder open, revealing a crisp and clean paper inside it. Scanning through the contents, she could feel her eyes become warm as the tears seemed to blur out her vision.
