Tony's POV
She has been gone for a few days now, I thought it would just be for the night but she still hasn't come back. I'm starting to worry. Those things I said, she'll never be able to forgive me for them.My feelings for Pepper ended the moment I laid eyes on Gen, she is perfect. I tried denying it but after Hydra took her there was no way I could hold back any longer. It opened my eyes to the fact that I could lose her at any time.
*flashback*
Gen and I have been together for 4 months and she has made me the happiest I have ever been. We can only spend so much time together because of the team but her teleportation powers really help at night, if ya know what I mean. After Pepper and I broke up, I told myself I would never fall in love again. When you're an Avenger, you never know what mission will be your last. I didn't want to make anyone go through that again. I can't help it when it comes to Gen.
It's a Friday night and Gen just teleported back to her room before Cassie got out of the shower. I close my eyes and start to drift to sleep when a hand covers my mouth. There were two men holding my arms down and I couldn't move. "Nice to meet you again, Mr. Stark" a woman says from the left of me as she turns on my lights. It's Gens parents, this can't be good.
"We've been watching our daughter closely for awhile now. It seems as though you two have a very serious relationship going on. She cares for you a great deal and there's no way she'll leave this team because of it" her father says with his hand still over my mouth.
I try to get out of their grip again but it was no use. She wouldn't leave the Avengers no matter what so why does our relationship concern them? The thought of ever asking them for their blessing doesn't seem nice. Thank God they aren't close.
"So we're going to give you two options" her mother continues as she sits on the foot of my bed. "You're ex-girlfriend Pepper hasn't dated anyone since you broke up, we've done our research. I suggest you give her a call and rekindle that relationship.
If you don't, we won't hesitate to kill our daughter" the men let go of me as she finishes. They vanish suddenly, leaving me alone in my room.
I have no other choice than to listen to her. I grab my phone off of the night stand and dial Peppers number, "Hey, it's Tony." The line is silent for a moment before I hear her voice, "It's 1am and you're calling me after 3 years?!" She seems angry, maybe she won't come.
I don't want her here anyways. "Please come over. I miss you" I cringe at my own words and I hear her hang up. Well, I have nothing to worry about then.
Soon after, I hear a knock come from downstairs. I walk down and open the door to see a smiling Pepper, god dammit. "I've been waiting for that call since the day I left" she hugs me tightly. We go upstairs, and catch up for awhile. She keeps trying to sleep with me but I made up the excuse that I wanted to take things slow.
I wake up with her still next to me and mentally groan. I wanted that all to be a dream. She wakes up soon after me, "Can I wear one of your shirts?" I shake my head no and walk downstairs for breakfast. When she finally comes down she's wearing one anyways. She never listens.
Pepper takes a seat on my lap even though I had grabbed a chair specifically for her. Everyone came in and started asking questions about us. Every time I tried to answer that she only spent the night, she beat me to it and said we're dating. This is another reason why I moved on, she's controlling.
About 10 minutes later I hear two pairs of footsteps and then it hits me, Gen has no idea. I can't tell her about her parents coming, I'm not aloud to. She walks in with Cassie without looking over at the table. "Good morning Genevieve, come meet Pepper" Peter calls out from the end of the table. This won't go well.
She hands Cassie her bowl and turns around. I lower my gaze quickly, I can't stand seeing her reaction. She's going to kill me. The bowl in her hand crashes to the floor, breaking. Shit. "Oh my god Genevieve, I swear you are the clumsiest person I've ever met" everyone chuckles as Cassie cleans up the mess. At least no one else can notice the tension.
Pepper introduces herself but I don't hear a response from Gen. "Genevieve? Are you alright? You look awfully pale" Thor questions. No, she's not okay. Some asshole just had to bring his ex home without telling her. "Yes, sorry I zoned out there for a second. It's great to meet you" I hear her walk around the table and she shakes Peppers hand.
"Are you two together?" I really wish she didn't ask that. "Yes we are. We separated for awhile due to our schedules but he called me last night and here I am." I finally manage to look at her, trying to hide the tears I was holding back. Thor was right, she looks pale. This is all my fault.
I ask to speak to her alone, using training as an excuse so no questions were asked. I had to whisper it so Cassie didn't hear. "Maybe later, Mr. Stark. Cassie is over and we have plans. Also, we've talked about this sir, call me Genevieve" she walks out of the kitchen quickly while Cassie followed. She has never called me that before, I really fucked up. I have no choice but to do this.
*flashback over*Gen was the last person I wanted to hurt but it was either that or have her killed. If I told Gen beforehand, who knows if Hydra was listening in. Everything I did was to protect her. Now she hates me for it. All of this was a lose-lose situation, I lost her either way.
I walk downstairs to the silent table. No one has said much since Gen left, especially to me. Besides Pepper, "Hey babe!" I'm going to kick her out tonight now that Gen is gone. "Hi Pepper, can we later?" she raises an eyebrow at me and nods her head slowly.
