Chapter 53: say yes

Having Gen brought into my life has been the most amazing experience I can even imagine.
Lately I've been thinking a lot about how many times I've gotten so close to losing her. The missions that went south, her parents, my stupid mistakes. There's been too many times to count. She no longer goes on missions now that we have Wanda but there's still that chance that something happens to her. Living the superhero life isn't as magical as most think. I know what I want, I want to marry her.

I knock on Romanoff's bedroom door. "Come in" she calls from the other side. I open it and walk inside. "Hey Stark, do we have a new mission?" She asks. I shake my head and sit down at her desk. "I need your help with something personal. You're Gens best friend so I figured you were the best one to go to" I explain. I can see the confusion on her face, "Is something wrong between you two? You seem to be doing great."

I grin, "That's just it, we're doing amazing. I want to marry her Romanoff but I don't know how this whole proposal thing works. Pepper forced me to get engaged, this is new to me." She stands off her bed, "YOU'RE GONNA PRO-" she starts to scream but I jump up and cover her mouth. "Could you be any louder?! I want this to be a surprise!" She silently sits back down with a smile.

"Okay so what if you tell everyone we're just having a little party for just us and then propose to her then?" She suggests. It's not a bad plan but there's some pieces missing. "What if she asks what's it for? When would be a good time? I have no clue what to do Natasha" I'm panicking about this. I really love her and I won't wanna mess this up. "Just say it's to celebrate our family we have here and the timing is up to you. Do it when it feels like the right time" she gives good advice. It would be even better if I knew how to tell when it's the right time.

I thank her for the help and walk around the compound telling everyone about the party. The only one who knows I'm proposing is Natasha but there's about to be one more. I go into my office and see Wanda playing around with her suit. "Hey sweetheart, I have a little secret to tell you but I need you to promise not to tell anyone" I bend down next to her. "I promise I won't tell dad, what is it" she asks. She takes the helmet off and I can see her perfect little smile. I can't believe I helped produce such an angel.

"What if I told you that I'm planning on proposing to mom tonight at a little party?" I whisper. She goes to smack her mouth, forgetting she's in her suit. The hard metal hits her face and she stumbles back for a moment and giggles. Like father like daughter. "I would love that dad! I've been waiting for this day for agessss" she exclaims. "Honey you only met me like 8 months ago" I joke. "Well it's been 8 months too long then" she has a point.

I save Gen for last, "Hey love, we're having a party tonight for just the team. I thought it would be good to just celebrate all that we have for once." She gives me a suspicious look, oh no I already messed this up. "That's very sweet of you babe but this is a little random isn't it?" She questions. I shrug, "Not at all, just thought it would be fun". She nods, still looking suspiciously at me and then heads to her closet to look for an outfit. I know she can read my like a book, I'm just hoping she can't right now.

Later that night were all eating dinner. "Who made this? This is delicious!" Gen says after taking a few bites. "I did, thought I would give it a try" I say. She turns to me with that same look from earlier but doesn't say anything. I don't think I've ever cooked dinner at the compound before. I suck at being sly with this stuff. We all head to the living room and start dancing together. A slow dance soon comes on and I see a grin on her face immediately. She loves to slow dance.

As we hold each other close and dance, I know. I know this is the right time. I pull away and stare at her for a moment. The group notices and stop dancing. I get down on one knee and a small gasp leaves everyone's mouth. Gen covers her face as she looks down to me as I pull out a ring. "Babe, you are the most amazing woman I have ever met. We've gone through so many things with one another and I never want to stop making memories with you by my side. Genevieve Alistair, will you marry me?"

She quickly nods her head, "Yes! Oh my god I love you so much honey!" I stand up and slip the ring onto her finger, the perfect size. I kiss her with all the passion I have. Wanda runs and hugs both of us, "My parents are getting married!" We all laugh and the team congratulated us. This is the most magical night of my life, I get to spend the rest of my life with the woman I love.

Genevieve
I get to spend the rest of my life with the man I love! I can't believe this! I know we've been together for a long time but I just didn't see this coming for some reason. He made the proposal so beautiful. Everyone I love was in the room which made it perfect. Well, almost perfect. I would've loved to have Loki and Bucky by my side.
