•••••Kamari "Mari"
>> Monday
August 10th, 2020Kamari kept his head down as he walked down the hallway to his 3rd period of the day, AP Psychology. He usually would have a science class but having a science class in Jefferson was only a 3-year requirement. He wanted to focus more on college classes his senior year since he already had all of classes to graduate fulfilled. Every single class on his schedule was a class that offered 3 college credits so when he was finished he wouldn't be a freshman, he would be a sophomore.
School was all Kamari had. He was raised by two parents who didn't have much and they stressed the importance of him having priorities and not worrying about materialistic things. Which is a real reason he kept to himself and didn't fit in. He always knew his quietness and intelligence was something that wouldn't be considered "cool". He made money through his retail job but never spent his earnings on unnecessary things. He wanted to save all his earnings to be well off in college and not have to work. He was only 17 and already had a savings with over 10k inside of it.
Over the summer many things for Kamari changed life wise and physical wise.
His father was promoted within his contractor job so he was now making six figures and they ended up moving into a bigger home in a nicer neighborhood. Kamari was also promoted to assistant manager boosting his pay rate from 13 to 17 dollars. His bi-weekly checks hit about 1200 dollars every time so he was bringing in more money than he previously calculate. He was told he had a bit more leeway with his money since he had did so well with saving prior and now his father could help more. Plus he was offered a full academic scholarship to Stanford University. He didn't change his ways though, he didn't know what to even spend his money on.
He gained some weight but more so in muscle from helping his father work on his car over the summer, making him the strongest he's ever been. He also grew about 3.5 inches in height making him now 6'4. His voice grew a few octaves deeper. He also now had a beard that he just let grow cause he didn't know what else to do with it. His father had a beard as long as James hardens so he expected to look like that one day.
His doctor summed all of these changes to be him hitting his final stages of puberty. Which he expected the answer to be because there was no other answer for his physical changes.
Despite those changes he was still the same Kamari. Personality and all.
Entering the class he pulled his phone out of his pocket and paused his music, looking up only to find somewhere in the back of the class to sit. He hated being seen and wanted limited to no interaction with his classmates at all. No matter how old he got, he was still messed with.
Thankfully he was the first one there so he decided on a seat in the corner near the window. He headed there and sat down, preparing for class to start. The J. Cole lyrics played back in his head, causing him to start humming the beat as he pulled out the syllabus he printed out. The first assignment due was a paper and he had already completed it over the weekend.
He completed most of the assignments due the first 2 weeks of school over the weekend.
He was so inside his head he didn't recognize the girl sit next to him, staring a whole into the side of his face. It wasn't until he felt watched that he looked up to meet eyes with her, freezing. He recognized her as the dance captain and cheerleader Sorai. He knew her because they've been going to school together since 2nd grade.
His anxiety immediately went up because he expected something negative to come out of her mouth. No matter how used he was to the bad treatment, it never made it easier to handle. She's never messed with him but a lot of her inner circle has. She always just watched and turned her cheek.
