The first few months of the year flew by and while everything between me and Riley was good, everything else wasn't so much.Kyle and I still weren't talking which only made things awkward with me and Ava, and creepy Carl had seemed to pick up on the tension and was back to sending not so subtle hints that he knew I wasn't as protected as before and that he was waiting for me.
It was almost as if we were back to the start of school, and even though the flowers were beginning to bloom around the outside of the school, nothing about the days in school were bright and beautiful.
It was after history class on the way to lunch when Ava stopped me.
"Britt?"
"Hey what's up!" I asked taking in her slight frown.
"It's Jessica!"
"Jessica? What's wrong with her?" I asked confused why the obnoxious brunette from social studies was even a topic of conversation.
"She just asked your boyfriend to prom! That's what's wrong with her!" She almost yelled.
"Okay?" I replied, still confused.
"Okay... so you need to go out on the track field and claim your man!"
"Ava, Riley isn't going to take her to prom. You do remember me telling you that he lives with me now?" I explained.
"It doesn't matter Britt! It's a matter of principals, of girls not trying to swindle their way into other people's relationships! Come on!" She exclaimed grabbing my wrist and pulling me down the hall and out to the track field.
Sure enough Jessica was standing with Riley in the middle of the field. I didn't miss the constant twirling of her hair around her fingers, or how she kept 4 dthrowing her head back when she laughed. Ava was right, it was the principal.
I marched beside Ava until we got close and Ava stopped behind me. The whole team was here watching for some reason and all of them gasped when I walked straight up to Riley and claimed his mouth with mine.
Jessica seemed to take a few steps back after that, which made me feel better as I pulled away and looked at Riley's wide eyes.
"What was that for?" He asked.
"Just for being you!"
"Okay." He grinned before all the team lined up behind him.
I was confused as they formed a pyramid and then one by one opened their jackets
'Me + you =' and then as soon as I had finished reading the pyramid, Riley opened his shirt which read 'prom' and then reached into his pocket to grab out the deep purple tie.
I was surprised he had remembered the conversation from last year where I told him I wanted a dark purple prom dress and for us to match, especially since at the time it didn't seem like he was paying me any attention.
"Of course I will! I love you doofus!" I laughed as I kissed him again.
I could see Ava standing with Jessica as they both smiled and clapped and I knew they had set me up, not that it mattered right now.
"Jessica didn't actually ask you to prom did she?" I asked after a few moments.
"No!" He smiled, "But she did agree to go along with my plan if Gabe took her. Apparently she's had a crush on him for a while!" he shrugged. " The funny thing is that he actually likes her too!"
I put my arms around his waist and looked up at him "well I guess everyone is happy then!"
It was always so easy to get lost in the moment with Riley, unfortunately the end of lunch bell rang and a quick peck had to suffice until we went home.
