Even Now.

You couldn't remember the last time you had felt such peace. Pure and barely registerble peace. You could feel the sun on your skin, it was fading but you could still feel the traces of it. Through the dirt and the grim, you even looked peaceful. 26 years on this earth and you had never felt more at home dying in the arms of the person you loved most.

All you ever wanted was him. It was too late now, not even so much as a kiss was shared between you both but some how this was better. You couldnt possibly think of a better way to die. To slowly slip into non existence, absolutely nothingness.

"Please... Y/N, please." His voice came slowly towards you, dry and croaky. His free hand reached for your face, wiping away what you assumed was a stray tear.

But you felt good. You didn't feel any pain, despite the bullet hole through your abdomen, filling his thighs with your dark oxygenated blood.

"Don't let go. We will heal you, we'll - Natasha! Help me!" A gut wrenching sob escaped his chapped lips "Help me." He whispered.

You gently shushed him, not wanting this moment to be ruined. And although his body shook under yours, you could feel the light breeze wisping over you. The smell of fresh grass and his smell. His certain smell that used to make your mouth water. But it wasn't saliva in your mouth now, it was coppery warm blood.

Even that didnt ruin your moment of bliss.

"Let me go. I'm ok." You choked out, blood spilling down your cheek and on to his chest. You finally opened your eyes. If you were to truly die you weren't damned if your last sight wasnt his stunning eyes.

Even now, filled with shedding tears, they sparkled unlike anything you had ever seen. And suddenly your heart ached at the thought you would never cast your gaze on them again. Or the way he crinkled his nose when he laughed, or anything about him. For a split second you considered hanging on, waiting for help. But you would never get the chance to die like this again. Gloriously and loved.

"I can't, you can't. Don't leave me, don't leave me." His tears fell on to your face, they were warm. He repeated his words until they became a slow song to your soul.

"I would have followed you anywhere." His voice was strangled. He struggled for air, gasping for oxygen through his cries.

"Don't follow me here, don't follow me into the dark." You begged him, your hand searching for his.

You held on to his hand, like it was the last string holding you to this life.

"I lo-"

You shushed him again, noticing you couldn't feel your feet or legs anymore. You wished desperately that the last thing you could feel would be your hands. That way you could still feel him holding on to you.

"Don't say it because I'm dying." You gave a weak laugh, sputtering up more blood. You tilted your head to the side, coughing up what you could. Hoping to ease saying goodbye.

"I wish I had told you sooner, I wish-" his lips crashed down on to yours, he didnt care you had bled on him. This was the least of his concerns.

You fell into the kiss as if it was natural for you both. You didn't let your heart wonder what could have happened, you refused to pain yourself with what could never be.

As he pulled away from you, you could feel how cold you had grown. This was it, the final show.

"Tell them I loved them. Tell..." your eyes watered and your throat became tight. "Let them know how much I loved and needed them." You nodded towards a general direction, hoping he would understand you.

"I love you so deeply. I'm sorry we never got to-"

It was his turn to shush you. And what felt like years of dying suddenly came crashing down. It had barely been two minutes and you had already caved and told him something you never would have. You didn't want him to carry this guilty weight of "what if's". You wanted him happy and smiling, as you had always known him to be.

"I love you. It's always been you, Y/N." He kissed your forehead tenderly. Moving your sweat matted hair out of your face. His eyes were filled with pain, you couldn't stand it.

Slowly your eyes started to droop, you couldnt feel anything now. All sensations had left you.

You were looking down at yourself, wrapped in his arms. He was cradling you against the world, rocking you back and forth slowly. Either to sooth himself or to sooth your journey into where ever you were next headed.

You could see the look on your face. You had been correct, you had never known peace like this even if it was heart breaking.
