Spencer Reid: POV
"What you are about to see might be hard for you to digest. This hasn't been released to the media or to the Barclay's. It was sent directly to the police station therefore you tell no one. Not even your parents." I said sternly.
Kaleigh looked up at me and nodded her head once before turning toward the TV screen. We were in a room set toward the back of the building. It's dedicated to all the technology that helps in cracking cases. All throughtout the room are different types of computers, TVs, and other pieces of software.
I looked to my right and nodded toward the guy working the computer to pull the video back up onto the screen. The rest of the team stood behind me ready to re watch the video that sent us all into a frenzy.
"Avery Barclay has been missing-"
"It's been 2 weeks since anyone has last heard from Avery Barclay."
"The parents of Avery Barclay are devestated over the kidnapping of their 17 year old daughter Avery."
"If anyone has any leads of information about the wheareabouts of Avery Barclay, please call the number listed at the bottom of the screen."
The articles stop coming through the screen and it goes blank for a few seconds. Then it cuts to Avery in a room with her ankle cuffed to a pole and a man in a black ski mask standing next to her. He nudges her and she begins to speak.
"There are no leads on where I am and I can't tell you where I am. I can only give you hints and send you on a scavenger hunt and hope that you find me. I won't be telling you this clue in person. It will be placed somewhere. You must go to the park and find the right tree. If you start at the red twisty slide, it's as easy as pie."
She stopped talking and looked up at her captor. He was staring straight into the camera and was expressionless from what we were able to see.
"You have twenty four hours to find to get the clue before it's gone. Have fun."
The camera then cut off and the screen went black. It was one of those videos that leaves you speechless. I glanced over toward Kaleigh who had tears brimming in her eyes.
"She's been taking care of," I said, "She's obviously had a shower and is being fed. But honestly if she's seen the face of any of the abductors, it may not be a good thing."
Kaleigh looked up at me and blinked a few times "They'll kill her."
All us exchanged glances. I don't think any of knew how to answer that sort of question. Our silence would be the best way of telling her.
"So have you looked into the park?" She asked looking like she might start crying.
"There's only one park in this area. It's a rather large park but there isn't as many trees as you might think there are." Morgan stated,
I stared at the board to my right for a few seconds. A transcript was made up from the video. There was a map of the park and surrounding areas. The park itself looked to be multiple miles. The park here had a huge clearing that had picnic tables, stationary grills, a little pond, and the a huge playground. The twisty red slide that Avery referred to in the video was aside in the area for children. About 1 yard away from the enclosure that the slide was in, were the trees.
Glancing back up at the transcript, one little phrase caught my eye. "it's as easy as pie" . Pie seemed so out of place in that statement. I racked through my brain for possible answers for why it might be there and come up with nothing.
"Reid? What are you thinking?" JJ asked.
I turned my head and gave them a short glance before turning around and looking again. Grabbing a marker I circled the phrase I previously was looking at.
"It seems so out of place and I just can't seem to figure out why." I said sullenly.
"It's as easy as pie." Morgan recited.
Hearing someone say it aloud made it all clear.
"It means pi!" I said excitedly.
"Pie? Didn't you just say that doesn't make sense?" Morgan asked.
"Not pie as in food. Pi as 3.14 like the math term." I said excitedly.
"So like 3.14 miles , yards?" Morgan asked confused
"More like 3.14 yards. There'd be too big of an area to cover." I said thoughtfully
The room burst into conversation and so I took this time to think of what size the circle would be.
I calculated quickly and took the compass and drew a red circle around the slide. On one side, the circle enclosed right at the edge of the children's playground which didn't help because there were no trees. However on the other side there was a patch of trees. Judging by the patch , I'd say there were about 30. Maybe 40.
"Guys," I called.
No one heard me over the roaring conversation.
"Guys," I called louder.
Again no one heard me.
"GUYS," I screamed at the top of my lungs.
This got everyone's attention. I don't usually scream but time was wasting away the longer we argued.
"Let's go now. It's not that much area to cover but we need to get it before he comes back." I said
Everyone looked confused. "Why don't we wait for him to come and grab him." Kaleigh asked.
"If we wait there's a lot that could happen. If he has other partners watching the television then he could kill Avery and we may never get her alive," I stated, "Even if it's just him working, he may not tell us his name or even where Avery is. We can't take that chance."
"Okay. Well let's get going. I need JJ, Prentiss, and Rossi to stay back. The rest are coming with Reid and I. Morgan, you're with Reid and I," Hotch started, he then turned to the captain and said "You should come with and bring some men."
The captain nodded and walked out to go gather men. Everyone else began walking to the door.
"One more thing, " I called. Everyone turned around and waited. "These clues are meant to be hard so we don't figure them out. He wants us to fail. We'll have to think hard. This will be hard."
"That it?" Morgan asked.
My eyes wandered the room at everyone's eyes. I hestitated before saying this. "I think Avery's already seen his face."
"So what?" Kaleigh asked.
"That normally means that he has no intentions of being her back." I said

I'm really sorry this is late and short so it is a filler chapter until I get the next one up.
Above is who I think of as Avery, so I hope that helps with an image.
