When you least expect it (Jensoo convert G!P)

Chapter 27

I am driving back to school, having to collect Mino from practice. What Mino didn't know was that at home was the car that dad had got for him and Irene to share. Mino didn't think it was arriving for a few days, but dad wanted to surprise him.

I pull up to the school, noticing most of the team standing together, half way between the car park and the school building. I stop the engine and look over to see most of the guys standing there including Jisoo, Lisa, Seulgi and Song. I notice all four glance up when I arrive.

It only takes me a second of searching before I realise that Mino isn't among them. I notice Seulgi say something to Jisoo and Lisa before she starts jogging towards me.

I step out of the car and meet her at the bonnet.

"So, today is the day he gets the car?" She asks. I nod at her, realising Irene must have told her about it.

"Yeah, dad went out and got a huge bow for it. I was embarrassed when I saw it." I tell her, making us both laugh.

"He will be here in a minute. Coach asked to talk to him after he was showered." She tells me, leaning against the car. I copy her, both of us leaning against the car, facing the other guys on the team.

"What about?" I ask, remembering what Jisoo had said about him being considered for captain next year.

"No idea." She tells me, yet I can tell that she guessed it was about him being captain.

We stand in silence for a minute, both watching the other guys talk amongst themselves.

"What happened?" She asks after a minute. I look at her in confusion making her explain. "Jisoo has been in a bad mood all practice and last time she was in this bad of a mood you had given her the hoodie back." She tells me. I move my eyes from her to Jisoo. I can see her talking to Lisa. I have to admit she didn't look overly happy.

"We had another argument," I admit, looking down at my shoes.

"What about?" She asks. This was the thing about Seulgi, she always had that personality that made her easy to talk to. She always gave you her opinion about something, yet never forced it on you.

"Rosé asked for me to sit with her, Lisa and Jisoo during study today. Everyone was watching, which made me on edge as it was. She... she brushed her knee against mine and put her hand on my leg. It sounds silly now, but I was worried someone would see. She removed them after she realised how uncomfortable I was. We meet in Mrs Blackthorn's room after because I felt like shouting at her for being stupid. I shouted, she called our kiss at the dance stupid, I shouted again and then I left." I summarise for her, still looking down at my feet, realising how stupid it was.

"Are you ok?" She asks. That was another thing that made me love Seulgi, she always knew where to start when dealing with people's problems.

"Yes... No... I feel like an idiot, to be honest. I overreacted... It's just I don't know what to do... I like her." I admit. Seulgi doesn't say anything for a minute, yet I feel her glance move over to me.

"She likes you too, for what it's worth. She wouldn't be so grumpy about you two fighting if she didn't."

"Seulgi, it doesn't matter if she likes me back, it would never work and we both know that," I say, yet feel a flutter in my stomach at the thought of her liking me back.

"Maybe," is all the response I get. I look up at her, to see her watching me back.

"Did I overreact?" I ask, already knowing the answer.

"Maybe a little. She stopped when she realised you were uncomfortable." She reasons, pausing for a minute before asking, "She really called the kiss stupid?"

I just nod, not bothering to give a reply. I look up at the team to see Jisoo glancing at me as well. I move my eyes away, only to realise that Song was looking over here as well. He raises his hand in a wave slightly. I give a small wave back causing Jisoo to glance over to see who I was waving at.

"That didn't help." Seulgi comments, watching the encounter.

"No, it didn't." I agree, watching Jisoo's face turn to stone. "What do I do?" I ask, knowing that she will give me an honest opinion.

"What are the options?" She asks, both of us watching one of the guys throw a ball up in the air.

"I say I'm sorry for overreacting, I wait for her to apologise for being an ass, or I do the inevitable and break it off." I list, the last one causing a funny taste in my mouth.

I can tell Seulgi is watching me as I list the options off, looking for my reactions.

"What makes you think it is inevitable?" She asks, dodging the question.

"Because this was started as a deal, on the basis it would only last a few weeks it's been longer than that. Plus there is the whole issue with our fathers hating each other." I say, in a tone suggesting she already knows this.

"Jisoo isn't the only one who is grumpy, I see," She comments, getting a smile from me.

"Shut up," I tell her, nudging her shoulder.

"Seriously though, that deal was a stupid idea, but Jennie I saw you two together on Friday... You both looked so happy." She comments. I look back at Jisoo.

"Seulgi, we argue constantly and you just pointed out that we were both grumpy because of an argument. I wouldn't classify that as happy." I say.

"You don't argue constantly, you used to. There is a difference."

Again we both are silent, lost in our own thoughts. I notice Lisa look towards me, giving a small smile when we make eye contact. I smile back at her, watching as she says something to Jisoo, making her also look over.

"I'm not just saying this because I don't like having practice with a captain that makes us do double the amount of laps when she is annoyed, but..." She pauses for dramatic effect, making me laugh slightly, "if you aren't ready to end it, then don't. Plus, if you feel like you should admit you overreacted and apologise for it, then do it, make the first move. She will likely admit she was being an ass." She says, giving me her opinion, which I knew she would eventually.

"Thank you, Seulgi," I say, leaning over and giving her a hug, which she returns.

"Well, I owed you for telling me about that view point Irene likes." She says, making us both laugh. I glance up to see Mino walk out of the building and towards us.

"What did coach want?" Seulgi asks when she gets in hearing range.

"Just to talk about next year," Mino says, a happy smile on his face.

"What about next year?" I prompt.

"It's not official... But they are considering me to be captain." He says, sounding proud of himself.

"Congratulations, you deserve it," I tell him, giving him a hug.

I step back and see Seulgi stand from the car and give him a hug. They talk about the news for a minute or two before Seulgi starts to walk back to the team.

"See you later." She tells us, before focusing on me, "remember I don't like running laps." I just roll my eyes at her, before walking to the driver's door and getting in.

"She told you that Jisoo had us running around the field like we were preparing for a marathon then?" Mino asks as I start driving home.

"Yeah," I respond. The rest of the journey is spent him taking me word by word through what coach said to him.

Approaching the house I can see everyone standing outside beside the car. I glance at Mino to see a massive smile on his face.

"I thought it wasn't coming until the end of the week?" He asks, excitement clear in his voice.

"Dad wanted to surprise you," I tell him, pulling into the driveway. Mino jumps out and goes over to the car. I follow behind and take him both Irene and his smiles as they look over their new car.

Yeri, mum, dad and I all stand smiling as we watch them act like it's Christmas and they just got the best present ever.
