"How fast?"
"Faster than any of my men combined."
My head hurts as I attempt to listen into this conversation. However, I can barely find it in myself to open my eyes. So I succumb into the darkness once more, but this time it takes me into the depths of the sea.
I look up at the night sky, taking notice of it's radiant glow. The moon shines down on my white dress, making it seem almost translucent on my small form. I can feel the soft glow rejuvenate my body and take a deep breath of the salty air.
The moon beckons me forward as I continue to stare at its bright glow. Bewitchingly, I begin to take slow steps towards the cliff, it being the only thing separating me from the beauty calling out to me. However, despite the moonlights strong pull, the logical part of me knows better, knows what my body doesn't, that If I attempt this, I die. But, logical reasoning doesn't seem to play a factor in this dream as my body continues to make its way towards the cliff's edge.
The wind intensifies, blowing my dirty blonde hair backwards. The crashing sound of water breaking against the shores rocks has me gazing fearfully at the water. It escalates with every step I take towards it, as if sensing my presence.
My mind is yelling at my body to run, to get away from the cliff I'm standing on, fearing the body of water that's coaxing me to jump. However, despite my pleas, my body steps forward. As soon as I'm suspended midair I regain control of my body. Albeit at that point it's too late. Upon making contact with the water I cry out, but no one can hear me. I sink inside and lay motionless in it's depths. I see a small figure inside the water with me, but it's not struggling, it's allowing the water to pull it into the darkest part of the sea. Wait a second is that.. Mom?
"It's time to awaken, it's your time to fight." My mother displays a somber expression. She smiles sadly and sinks deeper into the ocean, completely disappearing from sight.
"No!" I thrash around. "Get me out of here! I'm coming, just hold on!" I say as I struggle against the heavy chains encircling my arms.
Wait a second. Chains?
I suddenly regain sight of where I am. I'm no longer in the depths of the ocean watching my mother's lifeless body seep away. Instead my arms and legs are attached to tight chains, causing every part of my body throb tenfold.
My eyes continue to adjust to my surroundings as I blink away my previous grogginess, quickly noting the cold concrete bars I'm lying against. I slide myself away from the bars, sitting in what appears to be the center of the cell, feeling goosebumps swiftly crawl up my shaking form.
"You're finally awake." I jerk my head sideways, eyes searching through the bars to see a man leaning against a wall, smirking in my direction.
I meet his eyes which soften at the sight of mine. My throat is dry making my voice rasp, "How long was I out?"
He gives me a quizzical expression, as if I'm an equation he can't quite solve. "A couple of hours."
I nod, not having much to say and focus on the throbbing my arms emits and swiftly cradle it; dragging the chains along with me as I do so.
"If you let me, I can help you with that arm."
I assess him from head to toe, making certain he doesn't have any weapons on him, but when I notice his smirk I realize I'm giving him the wrong impression. He must think I'm checking him out. What an egotistical idiot.
From then on I keep my head lowered, remembering to conceal the secret. If they find out, then my chances of saving mom will be slim to none.
"No thanks, I've had worse," I mutter dejectedly.
